That is an old vehicle and a gas guzzler. I would pass on it. If the bolt or stud is snapped off, it means removing the engine to drill out. If the stud is holding something important like the starter they usually hold something other than just a ground wire?
Disconnect battery + two bolt 17mm straight up from bottom let starter down 13mm nut primary hot from battery 8mm ignition wire if it has shim to space to go back like they came out
guessing you either have a 3.1 or 3.8 L engine, if so they will be located on bottom side of starter on front of engine should be a 14 mm or poss 15mm bolt head however it may have a splash shield covering the bolts which should be a 10 mm bolt probably 2 of them holding splash shild on
look in between the fuel tank and the rear axle just above the charcoal canister. The charcoal canister can be moved out of the way by removing the bolt with a 10mm socket that holds it in place on the drivers side of the canister.
in the engine you will see 2 fan belts one is for the AC compressor and the other one
goes around the alternator pully, steering pump, the came which is attached to the head and there is one pully which has a silver thing attached to the engine with 4 to 6 nuts thats the water pump
It could be the security system...It often times masks its self as a starter ignition or battery issue....If this is the problem turn your key to the accessory mode for ten minutes...have jumper cables and another vehicle on hand should your battery die...This seems to be a common issue on these vehicles but if this is the problem it should start after leaving it on accessory for 10 min
Remove the negative and positive battery terminal. Llift the car, remove the plastic cover under the radiator, remove the wires leading to the starter, remove the 2 bolts that hold the starter in place and do the opposite to put it back. You can have the starter refurbished for way less than what it costs for a new one..
15 MM socket, I have put two bolts in the pullley and used a bar between them and the frame. I can not remove the bolt on the 99 I'm working on. I have broken two impact sockets trying to get it out. The book says to remove the inspection cover at the starter and tranny housing, and jam a screwdriver into the ring gear, but that requires two people and just doesn't sound right. The two bolts with a bar through them up against the frame will hold the pulley, I just keep breaking the sockets with the breaker bar and pipe I;m using and the bolt isn't moving.
