Don't use any stop leak. It just clogs up the heater core anyway. Just bypass it at the fire wall for now. Until you have the money to get it repaired.
Hello terry Bassett.
MOST likely a bad leak in your heater core.
Personally... I would not use a coolant additive... but I know for a fact BAR'S LEAK does work... You might want to try it... because you are going to dump all you coolant ... later... anyway!
I have replaced three cores...
One to the radiator shop for repair...
Two purchased new... (YOUR available below).
because the real WORK is getting into the heater to get to the offending device...
Pressure testing with a coolant tester (cold test) could be done to ASSURE precisely what you are after... but I never bothered simply because it could not be anything else (I'm not that smart).
This is the job I ALWAYS think of when I am trying to tell people to purchase the FACTORY+WORKSHOP+MANUAL for their vehicles ... (I highly recommend).
The 1975 Ranchero (air conditioned) LOOKED to be the WORST... BUT (after reading the manual) I simply removed the
wind-shield trims, upper dash pad (all screws)... everything was completely accessible (no need to open the A/C).
My point being... there's an EASY WAY for EVERY VEHICLE
(the factory manuals show the way).
Shop towels to clean up the interior moisture... and you're done!
Hope this helps!!
