CONVERTIBLE TOP WONT GO DOWN. I unlatch& hit the power button ¬hing happens. no noise.convert top indicator light Flashes back&forth to outside temp Any idea what is causing this?

    In case this is pertinent to the top not working, my passenger side window will no long work.
    I also had a bad alternator that killed my battery. I just had a brand new battery installed today.
    I read you can reset by using your master window switch, tried twice and nothing

Have you tried setting the parking brake before operating the top? I am not that familiar wit your exact model, but do know some manufacturers have this safety feature built in,

    Yes. I don't think you have to with this model, but my last try the parking brake was on. Thanks for your answer

My problem has been solved. I contacted the VW Customer Service and spoke with an advocate. The advocate and my dealership reached a conclusion and VW has decided to replace the items to alleviate my problem at their cost. Sometimes, dreams come true. Good luck to all of you who have similar problems with your VW Beetle convertible. It took quite a lot of patience and determination on my part, but the VW advocate was sympathetic to my plight since I'd never taken the vehicle anywhere else but the dealership for all repairs. The repairs have not been completed yet, so I cannot say whether or not the dilemma is, indeed, solved.

By using the window master switch method, it reset the computer and the roof went all the way down and locked.

in one of the locating holes that it locks into is a micro switch and this may not be connecting

Hi there.
Can anybody help me.
I have a problem with my vw golf convertible 1997.
The top will not open or close,
I can hear the motor going but nothing will work.
There is enough fluid for the top to work.
Please help me please.

I have G6 convertible sensor "top not secure" warning on panel. However secure and working. The hard top just stopped opening. Please advise Deborah
Before taking this problem to the dealer, you might check this quick fix. I had the same problem on my 2007 Pontiac G6 Gt Convertible, and just resolved it.
First, you can access your trunk by disconnecting, and then reconnecting your negative battery terminal-this clears the safety code momentarily allowing the trunk to be opened using your trunk release button.
After you have the trunk open, check the wiring harness located in the top right corner of the trunk lid where the hinge is attached to the trunk lid. My wiring harness had come loose, allowing a wire to get stuck in the hinge, resulting in a cut wire-it was a red one. I spliced the wire back together, taped it up with electrical tape, and then secured the harness to the hinge assembly so wires couldn't come loose again. The problem resolved immediately with no further issues. Good luck.

HEY GUYS MY 97 328I CONVERTIBLE WONT OPEN OR CLOSE THE TOP, AS RIGHT NOW IT IS IN CLOSE POSSITION BUT THE LIGHT KEEP ON BLINKING, i DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANY MORE COULD ANY BODY HELP ME?
Turn on the radio so the battery is engaged, or turn on the engine.

  • 2 Fold down the cargo partition in the trunk and lock it on both sides. If the cargo partition is not down, there will be no place in the trunk to store the convertible top.
  • 3 Press the convertible button forward to open the top. It's located under the circular control button on the consul. The button has a picture of a window with one arrow pointing up and another pointing down.
  • 4 Pull the convertible button backward to close the top.
  • 5 Use your key to open or close the top when you are outside of the BMW but still close to it. Press and hold the arrow button on top of your key to open the top. To close the top, press and hold the Lock button. The car does not need to be turned on to operate the top with the key.

    Just got a 2004 VW New Beetle Convertible & when the top is down the alarm sounds & the warning light above the windshield flashes. The top wont go down any farther than it does - at least not...

    Convertible top switch works sometimes but other times it does not work
    If the convertible top switch not working properly every-time.Then the switch and its electrical connections/wirings needs to be checked. The switch is typically located in the trunk, positioned right beside the covering of the left or right tail light. The switch should be set to automatic, not manual. If the switch is properly set, then other things are causing the problem. The other things blocking the top to move up and down is its hinges.If the hinges are bent or cracked or got loose then this can be the other reason. If the hinges are in good condition, then check the convertible top struts. These are the mechanisms that lift the convertible top. Lift struts deteriorate due to wear and tear and will need to be replaced if it's the source of the problem. Another very common reason for a not working convertible top is the worn out elastic straps. Furthermore, the convertible top's fuse could be blown out and as a result it's causing the convertible top to stop working. In newer latest models the convertible top is controlled by a single button conveniently located next to the handbrake. You press a button to release a center locking device - none of this moving the sun visors out of the way and releasing two latches on other sides of the car stuff! - then twist the device with its conveniently large handle. Then you press the button, and if you're lucky, it'll work the first time. If not, try it again! The temperature display goes from blue to yellow and shows a "convertible top opening" graphic, and the top opens up and neatly folds itself in back. You can release the button when it beeps again. Putting it back on again is the same basic process, though you have to wait for the beep, then press the latch release, twist it, pull down, then re-twist the latch again.     2005 crossfire top wont go down
    This can be caused by your trunk lid not being all the way shut .  But the most times this has happened to me the separator panel that lifts out toward you and latches to separate top from trunk space is not lifted into the latched position.. very frustrating till i figured it out.  Hope this helps helps.

    Lowering convertible top
    There should be latches you have to pull first to unlock the top from the windshield. Pull down the sun visors, the handles should be under them. Then push the power top switch.
