Fritz, Clear codes, Plugs and coils try switching them around, not using the same cylinder, to see if code changes to different cylinder. this would help diagnose bad coil or plug. See links below for full instruction. I have had this code come up because of a bad/dirty fuel injector also. Last link tells what other reasons code could be thrown.

Begin by checking the spark. Replace the plug if it is worn or fouled.

Coil packs and coil-on-plug coils fail quite often.

SOURCE: didn't pass smog

did it fail high hc? you could change 4and 6 coils around and see if you get a p0306 that means the coil pack is bad. common on this type.

SOURCE: never fixed a problem in a car before help..... i

first off check your spark plug wires. take them off one at a time and look for cracks or white burn marks. if they look fine check your spark plugs(make sure they are gapped correctly) and clean. if not either of those problems you will need to check the coil pack and ignition module. you may want to have someone with experience do this but if you want me to i can tell you how to ohm them and make sure they are functioning properly.

SOURCE: OBDII LIGHT IS ON

P0302 is a mechanical fault code meaning there could be a problem with the wiring or ignition/fuel system, could be a bad injector or ECT/MAF sensor or the ECM. (ECT=engine coolant temperature sensor)(MAF=Air flow sensor)(ECM=Engine control Module)

Causes of p0300, p0302, p0304, p0306 in 2000 toyota avalon

P0300 = Random/multiple cylinder(s) - misfire detected.
P0302 = Cylinder 2 - misfire detected.
P0304 = Cylinder 4 - misfire detected.
P0306 = Cylinder 6 - misfire detected.

A misfire can be caused by a few things. The most common causes are usually spark supply or fuel supply. Get BOTH of these checked.
All the misfires are on the same side of the engine so I would suspect a fuel rail or an injector issue on that side of the engine.
