SOURCE: 91 mazda protege, grinding lower gears?

More than likely the synchronizers are going out, they allow you to move from gear to gear without damaging transmission.

SOURCE: transmission

Hey i just had the same problem with my car. the 3rd gear shift fork was broke off in the transmission in my car. however it might just be ur shift linkage. you can check to make sure the pin is moving in and out of the tranny from underneath the car (laying on the ground its on the left side just before the echaust bends to go up to the headers.) and if it is moving it most likely is the shift fork.
But after i had my transmission done my factory keyless entry, interior lights, and headlight door buzzer (when u get out of the car with the lights on) does not work.... also my odometer trip meter resets itself everytime i shut my car off. im still working on finding out what that is.

SOURCE: 95 mazda protege stuck in drive, wont shift gears, shifter moves but can't go in reverse, need help please

Check the shift cable that goes between the shifter and the transmission. If it's damaged internally it will not move properly and the condition you stated will be a symptom. Easiest way to check it is to disconnect the transmission end of cable and see if it moves freely. If not, replace it.

5 speed trans stuck in 2nd gear, will not budge

Sometimes this is a problem with the shifter and not internal to the transmission. I am not totally familiar with every model of every car line. If the shifter can be disconnected, see if the shifter will work its pattern or if the shifter is jammed.
Sometimes the shift rods bind, the plastic guides break, or plastic bushings break and misalign the assembly of the shifter. Then it is just a matter of replacing the shifter unless individual components can be purchased to rebuild the shifter.
You should check your clutch assembly to see if the clutch is disengaging. Without a clutch you will be stuck in the gear you happen to be in.

Buick Century 2000 gear shifter moves freely will not start

Sounds like your shift cable came unhooked or just plain Broke, it hooks to shifter and hooks to transmission, If it moves freely I would say it's Broken, and that is why car won't start cause it is still in drive

My 2004 chevy cavalier won't start it is stuck in

Your shifter cable sounds like it separated from the transmission or shifter or just broke. you are probably stuck in a moving gear so the neutral safety switch is disabling the ignition.

My problem is that the manual transmission is stuck in 4th gear. I was backing up when I went to put it into 1st the shifter was stuck. The clutch works to disengage the gears but the shifter won't...

That cylinder is known as the clutch slave cylinder. It should push against the clutch fork every time the clutch pedal is depressed to allow gear changes. If it doesn't, suspect a faulty slave cylinder, or clutch master cylinder.

The manual transmission gear shift is loose and stuck in first gear. The shifter is wobbly and appears to be loose. The gear shifter linkage bad/broke? How do I get to it?

take out the console, look on youtube for videos of others doing this. most likely you are going to need a saturn shifter bushing repair kit which you can get on ebay for less than 20 bucks.

Car stuck in a gear and the shifter stick feels broke, it just wobbles around and doesn't do anything. But the car is still drivable, it's stuck in a higher gear. I need to know how to fix tghis cheap as...

What happen the grommet at the end of the shifter cable broke, this grommet is not sold by it's self, it is sold with the cable as one and a dealer item only, what you can try is remove the cover over the shifter and with a short piece of vacum hose and a tie down or hose clamp, you can put it in there in the place of the grommet, this is just a short fix, cable will have to be replace.

Mitsibishi colt 97 stuck in 1st gear

Your link broke off. What might have happened is the car got stuck in 1st, and when you shifted to second, the link broke. Not too clued up on your car, but you probably need to drop the gearbox. On some cars you can take out the shifter without having to drop the box and still see if the link is broken. Good luck
