Full drain including the Torque converter or just the fluid in the pan?? Makes a huge difference. Also all fluid levels are checked with the transmission fluid hot. The pan holds about 2.5 US quarts, add two and check the dipstick I=engine running in park, add until it is just at the bottom of the safe zone and drive the car get the fluid hot to the touch and recheck and top off as needed.

What is my transmission fluid capacity for a 1991 Chevy S10 automatic 4.3L. after changing my transmission filter? Should I also use the old fluid with Lucas transmission fix or new fluid with Lucas? I...

Fluid capacities are usually found in the vehicle handbook or repair manual but also found in the application catalogues of oil and fluid providers, many of which can be found online.

Dirt, swarf and general detritus is the enemy of hydraulic systems, which describes the auto transmission. The stuff that does the damage is only a few microns in size and unlikely to be captured by either screen or filter and so used fluid isn't a good idea, especially as it is difficult to ensure the almost-surgical cleanliness of funnels, containers and the draining/filling method...

Where do I put in transmission fluid on aBuick Rainier 2004 someone told my wife not put it down the dipstick?

Buick has been developed sophisticated transmissions through years and it is critical that you add the exact type of transmission fluid stipulated by your owner's manual (typically in the back of the manual in a section titled Fluid Capacities.) When adding transmission fluid to your Rainier, be sure to add it slowly as the transmission fluid capacity is reached quickly and it is difficult to remove excess fluid if you overfill. You can add fluid through the dipstick tube! Hope this helps. May god bless!

Im changing the transmission screen. How much fluid will i need?

Fluid capacity is stated on your owners manual. Or go online type on browser transmission fluid capacity of “make, model, year of your car”. If you drained the transmission fluid there would still be fluid left on the torque converter so for example the fluid capacity is 10 quarts there would be about 3 qrts left on the converter so all you need is 7 qrts. Of fluid.

Car won't shift into park

First thing I would check is the transmission fluid. It should be running and up to its normal operating temperature when you check it. If it is up to capacity, then you may need to have the transmission filter changed. They are not too difficult to change, if you're a do it yourself'er. The flat, box-looking pan on the bottom of the transmission holds the filter. You should first drain the fluid, then remove all of the bolts from around it. (It should have several bolts that run along the outside edges of the pan. After this is removed you will see your filter. Some of them just pop out by hand and some have some screws or bolts holding them in. They are a relatively cheap fix if that is causing the problem. If it is clogged, it is keeping the fluid from going to where it should. Some filters are permanent, meaning they should just be taken out and cleaned before putting it back in. You may also want to check the linkage. The linkage is what connects your shifter knob/stick in your car, to the actual lever/shifter/stick on the actual transmission. I have seen rocks and road debris get stuck on the side of the transmission, seriously limiting the movement of the lever/linkage/shift knob, etc... It is usually found on the left side of the car, running down the drivers side of the transmission. You can wiggle it from the inside of the car and let someone look underneath and it should be easily seen.
I hope this helps

Where will i find the transmission oil and what type to add

Transmission fluid, readily available at any parts store or Walmart, is found in the transmission pan. Look in your owner's manual's index (which should be in the glove box) to find the dipstick location. Frequently, when you pull the dipstick to check fluid level, the type of fluid to use will be etched on the dipstick at the fill line. It should also be printed in the owners manual under Recommended fluids or fliud capacity. See index under transmission or fluids. What vehicle do you have?
