CarGurusNov 15, 2012 - The engine just fall dead when you step on the gas; it seems to jerk before ... My car does the same thing but i put it in neutral n it starts up. ... I have a 2004 kia optima it jerks when I go into reverse it was driving ... start and run fine butwhen I put it in drive or any other gear it dies! ... 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT.
Front brake rotors need to be turned and new pads. Adjust rear brakes. the front brakes are doing all of the stopping. (overheating the rotors, premature pad wear).
Check your transmission fluid. the car needs to be driven for about 20 minutes and you need to leave the engine running but in park. The fluid should be at least to the cold level and should be pink in color (use a white paper towel to clear the dipstick after you pull it out once and then put it back in again. If the fluid is dark and runny, start with a drain and flush to see if that does't help things.
there is a limp mode but I doubt if that is the problem
It indicates that the torque converter clutch servo/solenoid is faulty
run the fault codes to confirm if that is it or a faulty TCM
check wiring around the transmission
Its the electronic shift control located just under the battery ontop the transmission replace or repair will solve the issue
it'll go into drive but once it reaches 1500 rpm it'll drop into neutral as a safety because at this rpm it is being told to shift gear and when it fails to do so it safely goes into neutral
it will go into reverse just fine and park and you can run all the low drive gears until you reach 1500 rpm then it'll cut it off
i pulled mine out re soldered bad components on the board to fix it but im an electronics engineer it may be easier for you to just replace it
Well for one, make sure you speed up slowly, dont HIT the accelerator. It may also be problems with your fuel filter. After you are stoped fuel stops running through the fuel pump/filter and then when you start going its starts to run through again and it cant keep up so it gets bubbles in it and doesnt move throught the filter easily hence the jerky accelerating. Good Luck
