I istalled the pump into the casing but you canot see if the top pipe is seated properly onthe bullnose of the pump

Some clutches can be fearsomely difficult to bleed successfully. In cases of difficulty it is worth trying reverse bleeding...

Connect the clutch bleeder and the nearest brake bleeder together with some well-fitting tubing, open both bleed screws and have an assistant pump the brake pedal. Make certain the brake reservoir is kept topped up and remove excess fluid from the clutch reservoir before it overflows.

Half a dozen pumps usually is sufficient, hold the pedal down and close both bleed screws.

If the fuel is leaking into the car you will need the replace the seal on the top on the pump assembly not the seals on the pump itself but before changing the seal just double check the fuel lines are tight and the leak is actually from the fuel splashing out of the tank. The seal your after is referred to as the pump assembly oring ( big rubber oring around the top of the assembly a smear of silcone can be used as a temporary fix but erge you to get it fix properly as soon as possible and fuel fumes in the cabin can be extremely deadly)

Check the feul pump relay

remove the seat ,open the lid above the tank, disconnect the pipes and connector , unlock top ring remove the pump and replace it.

2.2L Engine To Remove:

1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
4. Thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe
   
5. Remove the thermostat cover bolts from the thermostat housing.
6. Remove and discard the thermostat housing O-ring.
7. Thermostat assembly
   
8. Twist the water feed pipe while pulling to remove it from the water pump. Remove the water pipe from the water pump assembly.
9. Remove and discard the seals from the water pipe.
10. Remove the inner thermostat sleeve.
11. Remove the thermostat assembly.

To Install:

1. Install the thermostat cartridge into the thermostat housing while aligning the cartridge tangs up with the thermostat housing bolt holes. This will assure the inner sleeve can be completely installed.
2. Align and insert the inner sleeve notch into the thermostat housing. If the inner sleeve notch is not properly positioned, the sleeve will not completely seat into the housing.
3. The water feed pipe seals can be slightly lubricated with silicone gel to aid during installation. Install a new O-ring on the water pipe.
4. Position the water pipe into the water pump assembly.
5. Seat the water feed O-ring by pushing and twisting toward the water pump. Take care not to tear or damage the O-ring.
6. Install the thermostat housing cover to the water pipe. The water feed pipe has a locating tab to assure proper alignment.
7. Install a new thermostat housing cover seal into the recess groove.
8. Position the thermostat housing cover into position.
9. Install the thermostat housing cover bolts and tighten bolts to (89 in-lb 10 Nm).
10. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
11. Fill the cooling system.

hi, i think in that year the fuel pump is bolted to the engine right hand side. these have a glass bowl on the top, one pipe IN and one pipe OUT. but i could be wrong gerry

if the fuses are good and the relay is ok, then the fuel pump is the problem.

this is a easy DIY job ,lift the seat and you will see a rubber cover then lift this cover and you will see the top of the sender unit which contains the fuel pump also.Now check the flexable rubber pipe connections ,if leaking just renew the pipes ,but i have a feeling its the breather pipe on the top of the tank ,have a look anyway yourself as it could save you a few euros

Is the fuel pump fitted in the tank or is it an outside one?
If it's the one which is fitted in the tank thn probabely the rotation of the pump is wrong thus not pumping out the fuel.
If it's the kind tht is fitted onthe outside of the tank thn probabley the pipings are not done correctly or it may be sucking air.
