I installed a new dual fan radiator cooling assembly and everything was fine for a week The OE one had literally fallen apart after 160,000 miles. Now the passenger side fan on the new fan assembly has stopped spinning causing overheating in warm weather if driving slow. All fan fuses are OK. Doubt if a new fan motor is bad after only a few weeks.
Any tips?

Jun 29, 2009- I looked at the schamtic and it shows both fans running off the same power buss, a high speed input, low speed input and my fan also has quit the assembly is new so i doubt the motor is dead, i think mine is a fuse! any suggestions??
Use a known working relay of the same type and turn on your a/c on high, then put in the relay where the old high speed fan relay was. If it comes on, it's the relay. Try this on low speed as well. If they don't come on when the A/C is on, it could be your pcm/ecu as well. If it doesn't communicate with the sensor, it won't turn on. Check with A/C running to narrow it down. If they work here, look into the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Here a tip illustrating steps to test and replace the radiator cooling fan and the parts that may cause cooling fan malfunctioning.
Before
replacing the fan, make sure that the fan is really faulty. Read volts at fan
contacts or jump the fan wiring to energize the fan directly.Ensure that fan blades are not blocked.
If
the fan is OK, then the faulty part is either thermostat or fan relay.Ensure also that
you have tested the 15A fuse in the junction block and the 40A fuse located in
the Power distribution Center (PDC).
Here a diagram showing the location of the fan relay:
Finally, here below the steps required to replace the fan. The procedure is quite simple.
Disconnect the battery negative cable and set it apart.
Disconnect the electrical connector to the radiator fan.
Undo the bolts that hold the top fan housing and fan assembly (this is called Radiator Shroud).
Remove the Radiator Shroud housing. The radiator shroud will come out with the fan sliding toward the top side.
Install the new fan performing the operations in reverse order.
Here a diagram showing radiator shroud and cooling fan assembly:
To remove and replace a radiator is a major mechanical job, requires some quite complete equipment and some mechancal knowledge.
Last time I had my radiator replaced, it took about 2 hours for a proffesional radiator mechanic . Are you sure your really want to do it yourself?

That is a VERY easy radiator. Loosen radiator drain plug and drain coolant from radiator. Disconnect cooling fan connectorsRemove upper and lower radiator hoses after marking them to ease installation. For vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles, disconnect transmission cooler lines at transaxle. Remove air conditioner condenser fixing bolts and radiator bracket fixing nuts. Remove the radiator, radiator cooling fan, air conditioning cooling fan and transmission cooler lines from the vehicle as an assembly. Transfer all necessary parts (fan assemblies, cooler lines, clips, speed nuts, fittings, etc.) to the new radiator.
For 2000 Lincoln LS 3.9L SFI DOHC
8cyl... Radiator - Removal & Installation
Drain the engine cooling system.
Remove the upper radiator sight shield.
Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
Remove the six bolts and the two radiator upper support brackets.
Remove the upper radiator hose.
Remove the bolt and position the receiver drier aside.
Disconnect the dual flow coolant valve electrical connector and
the A/C line from the fan shroud.
3.0L engines only:
Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and the Idle Air
Control (IAC) valve electrical connectors.
Remove the bolts.
Remove the bracket.
3.9L engines only:
Remove the bolt and position the electric water pump aside.
Disconnect the high pressure cooling fan bracket and line.
Inspect the seal and install a new seal if necessary.
Disconnect the return hose from the cooling fan and shroud.
Separate the return hose from the fan shroud and position aside.
Remove the two bolts and the fan shroud assembly.
Remove the A/C condenser.
Remove the two bolts and position the multi-cooler assembly aside.
Remove the bolts and the condenser support brackets.
Remove the radiator.
To install:
Install the following:
Radiator
Condenser support brackets
Multi-cooler assembly
A/C condenser
Fan shroud assembly
Connect the return hose to the fan shroud
Connect the high pressure cooling fan bracket and line.
3.9L engines only:
Replace the bolt and position the electric water pump aside.
3.0L engines only: Connect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor and the Idle Air Control
(IAC) valve electrical connectors.
Replace the following
The upper radiator sight shield.
The air cleaner outlet tube.
The six bolts and the two radiator upper support brackets.
The upper radiator hose.
The bolt and position the receiver drier aside.
Hope help with this (remember rated and comment this).
Drain engine cooling system as described. Disconnect upper radiator hose (8260) and lower radiator hose (8286) and radiator overflow hose (8075) from the radiator (8005). Disconnect the transmission oil cooler inlet and outlet lines from the radiator.
Remove cooling fan motor, fan blade (8600) and fan shroud (8146) assembly as described.
Remove radiator upper bracket retaining bolts and remove bracket. Lift radiator from vehicle.
Installation
Position the radiator into the vehicle. Install upper brackets and tighten bolts securely.
Connect the transmission oil cooler lines to the transmission oil cooler fittings.
Install cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly as described.
Engine Cooling Fan Motor, Fan Blade and Fan Shroud Assembly, Electrical
Removal
Disconnect (pull apart) the male-female cooling fan motor wiring connector at the side of the fan shroud (8146). Remove the male terminal connector retaining clip from the fan shroud mounting tab.
Remove two fan shroud upper retaining bolts at the radiator tanks.
Lift cooling fan motor/fan blade (8600)/fan shroud assembly past radiator (8005), disengaging fan shroud from two lower retaining clips.
Installation
Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
Tighten fan shroud retaining bolts to 5.2-7.2 Nm (46-63 lb-in).
I found that for some reason if you start your car and then remove and reinstall the hi and low relays that the fans work. I have done this numerous times on my 1995 lhs. I thought that my fans were defective until by chance checked the relays which engine was running.
