Check the injector resistance. (11 to 15 Ohms) Check for fire at the injector plug. Noid light or test light. Should flash on and off when trying to start or running.

You replaced valves. Did you do it or have a shop do it. And also check the head? Question I have is why would you have a broken and bent valve on a non interference engine. On one cylinder. A broken valve usually drops in the cylinder and causes serious damage. Even scar up the cylinder wall is serious.

  • Randy Ohler Apr 24, 2016

My bad. I thought two bad valves. The push rod is a bit different. That lifter for the valve is locked up, basically solid. You should have replaced it also. You have one shot to clean it. Warm the engine to operating temperature and add 1/2 quart of transmission fluid. run it at idle for about 30 minutes. If the lifter clears out, it will quit misfiring. Change the oil. If not, look at replacing the lifter/s. I would do all them.

new set of heads from jegs about 15 miles on them. changed the lifters on #8 cylinder still missing.

  • Randy Ohler Apr 25, 2016

Well you have pressure. you have spark, Most likely you have fuel. (carburetor) So it is most likely the intake manifold gaskets or the intake manifold it self. i just did a 350 intake.. Told them it needed replaced. They didn't do it. 1 month later, they are doing it over again. With a different intake.

What would cause my 2001 vw passat to miss on 3rd cylinder it runs very ruff

Could be a head gasket being blown . Or spark plug lead or crock ignition coil depending on design. Get a compression test on the cylinders to check gasket .

Timing chain

bent push rods could have been caused when the chain broke and not from the chain been replaced wrong or the timing out.

if the engine was running when the chain broke the cam would have stopped leaving all the valves in the same positon as the mometum of the fly wheel continued to turn the pistons in the cylendars could hav come up and hitting the valves and bending the push rods. and or damaging the cylendar head.

recommend removing the head and have it checked for damage, as well as replacing the bent push rods, and cylendar gaskit. once the head is checked and the valves are seated well. then replace and follow instructions in the set up for the pistons and cam prior to replacing the chain and setting the timing.

I hope this was helpful.

There is no compression on one of the cylinders, what is solution? My auto is 2000 gmc jimmy, has new plugs, wires, etc. computer shows misfire. Help!

  • Hi, I can offer some answers to your question.
  • Well a few things could be going on here for no compression.
  1. You could have a hole[s] in that piston.
  2. Could have a busted compression ring.
  3. Broke or bent Push Rod.
  4. Carbon buildup under one of the valves.
  5. Broken exhaust OR intake valve.
  6. Could have burned up that exhaust or intake valve.
  7. Could have a hole in that cylinder wall.
  8. Valve spring.
  9. The valve spring keeper might have feel off.
  10. Could have snapped the connecting rod.
  • You say you have no compression in one of your cylinders. What did the compression test show? Or what is leading you to believe you have no compression?
  • There is a difference between a miss fire and no compression.
  • A misfire would more than likely throw an error code.
  • Do you have the actual code?

  • Please let me know what the code was as a miss fire can be many things. But actual no compression in one cylinder would be caused by one of the things I listed above.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

He meant bent valve. you are looking at a head job. sorry but these are interference engines.
In fact I believe it has an overhead cam right? If so then there are no pushrods. Generally all a bent pushrod does is leave the valve closed.

Miss fire in cylinder 8 . already replaced plugs & wires

is there spark coming out of coil when running? ck compression? and then the fuel injector is next on the list. have a shop that has a tech2 scanner check it, or they they can do a "injector flow test" and see if its opening and flowing when commanded, could be plugged.
