I have a 2005 vw Passat and the engine came on while I was on the highway this afternoon. At first, the light blinked, then it went solid. The car would hesitate at low RPMS (the car would shudder) and a significant amount of power was lost overall. Ideas?

Sounds like the plastic parts of the aiming screws aren't functioning. A trip to the dealer will tell you for sure

Sounds like the battery or a short in the battery line. The VW alarm will come on if you disconnect the battery. Use a voltmeter (or mutlimeter) to check the battery voltage (red lead on positive pole; black on negative; range on 0-50V). When car is not running, you should see 12V; when car is running, you should see 15V (if the alternator is working). You can also test the battery charge by turning on the headlights. If they brighten when you rev the engine or if the dim when you turn on other electrical accesories, then it is likely the battery.

you need to do a oil psi test to find out if it is an engine problem or a sender problem.

Should be take it by auto zone have them check for codes . It is free in most states.

5w/30 10w/40 10w/30 all seem to be fine for this car - the castrol is good oul through and through so will almost certainly be ok But just to be on the ultra safe side... you can phone Volkswagen Parts/Dealer yourself and they will advise you as to the best oil to use depending on your cars mileage etc...

You have a bad coil pack, they usually crack from age and heat. It's best to replace them all. Check for a VW recall on this item.

Check your antifreez level in your plastic bottle,keep an eye on this,if you begin to need fluids in any car,then you may have a serious problem starting.Have it checked!

I would check the oil pressure sensor and the oil pump itself. You can take the sensor out and use a mechanical gauge to check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is within specs, you need a new sensor, if not, you need a new pump.

Anyway, I own a 2004 VW Passat 1.8 and am currently facing the same problem (EPC light and check engine light on) and subsequently, I coded it out, which was P0322. I took my other vehicle (more reliable) into the VW dealership in Olympia Washington. I was going to replace the EPC sensor, which typically handles what is sent to the car's brain, telling it how much gas it needs to run. However, the technicians at the dealership told me to code it out before investing any money without knowing exactly what should be replaced.

I took the code and determined the "crank sensor" was defective. If you call around, you should be quoted anywhere between $48 and $90 respectfully. If your VW was lurching like it was missing for a split second at a usual speed, or died at stops, then I would say you were experiencing the same problem I was having. Hopefully, this will fix your problem? The part is pretty inexpensive, but I think what VW charges to replace the sensor, is highway robbery. Anyone in your family mechanically inclined? Good luck!
