Best ask a steering specialist shop as the engine identification shows a es300 as a 1mz-fe (3.0 ltr) and a ls400 as a 1uz-fe (4.0 ltr)
there may be mounting differences between the engines

SOURCE: '98 Lexus ES300 Won't Start--But Has New Battery!

If your is exhibiting the same signs as a dead battery it really sounds like your alternator is bad. If you are handy, you can remove the alternator and take it to an autoparts store like autozone and they will test it for you. This is not a hard job to do, usually 2 electrical connections, 3-5 mounting bolts and you have to pop the belt off. Just reverse it to install a new one. Good luck! - Nick

SOURCE: hesistaton at idle speed. how many ignition coils are used in a 98 lexus es300?

I looked it up on AutoZone.com and it looks like there is only one coil.  You can verify that by giving them a call.  However, to me it sounds like you might be having a problem with your idle air control valve.  Since you are only having problems when the vehicle is at idle I would take a look at your IAC.  It is located on the throttle body and is usually held on by two screws.  When the IAC starts to go bad you will have problems with the vehicle when idling.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

I also have the same problem, I would also be happy with a diagram of the location of the sensor.

What causes my Lexus ES300 to feel like it is not getting gas and wants to shut off when in drive, but gets the gas and power when in park or neutral?

I thought it was my fuel pump. It's likely your ECU.
The capacitors may have begun leaking.
I redid mine and fixed the problem.

My 1993 lexus es300 is overheating. one mechanic said that it was the water pump. another said the power steering pump, who is correct?

the power steering pump would have nothing to do with the engine overheating but the water pump certainly would, but before you go to the trouble of replacing the water pump you need to be certain that is the problem as there are other issues that can cause overheating, like the thermostat or a blocked radiator, the mechanic who said it was the power steering pump quiet obviously don't know too much about engines............hope this helps......cheers.

Changed power steering pump for lexus 1999 gs400 and it still doesnt work with the power steering I did purchase a used oem rack and pinion as well had the used parts both installed and it still is not...

you need to bleed the rack. you can try to turn the steering wheel to the left and hold for 5 sec and then to the right and hold, continue this a few times check fluid and repeat. you can also try to loosen line on rack and turn wheel to bleed air out then tighten before turning wheel again.

Where is the alternator located on a 1991 ls 400

The main purpose on an alternator is to recharge current back to the battery. One of the most common problems with the Lexus LS400 and SC400 is that power steering pump seal leak. Right below the power steering pump is the alternator. The power steering fluid will drip down and cause many electrical problems for the alternator. Therefore, its very common to have the alternator go bad along with the power steering pump, just be sure to check.awcforever.gif

1991 lexus ls400 power steeing slowly got hard to

As mentioned check ps fluid. If it wines when turning and still no power then the pump is internally bad.. If the fluid is dissapearing fast then its a hose or most likely a leaking rack& pinion assembly..
