I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder. Months and months ago, I was having serious problems with my jeep cutting off. I tried parts and after I finally got it fixed I paid a total of $900. I have learned my lesson to stop guessing and start taking it to a shop so they can put it on a machine.. This happen last year around November 2015. My jeep is running fine, BUT, for some reason it act as if it wants to cut off, but never does. When I had it repaired last year, the mechanic put a crank shaft on which was purchased at a dealership. The Jeep is running perfect and has never cut off, BUT, now every often when I am at a stop light it act as if it wants to cut off, but never does. I thought I had bad gas, or need a tuneup.. Right now I can go drive and it is perfect, but maybe the next day or maybe at every other stop, it tends to buff just a little like it wants to cut off, but never does. By the way, the crank shaft was purchased at an auto zone and the license mechanic said certain parts need to be purchased from a dealership. Does anyone know why my Jeep is acting like it want to cut off, but never does.

get your car fix right now
You meant the crank shaft sensor , I'm sure. called the CKP.
and the 4.0L has special rules, that many mechanics fail to read.
the book is clear on it.?
it's free to read.
So you want us to guess, that it, blind as bats?
what shop? dealer, ASE shop or joe's fast fix shop.?
Ponder this.
the jeep can stall, that is the word stalls. or tries to stall
when RPM drops below, 700 rpm that means the pCM has lost control of ENGINE SPEED.
it can be over 50 things. the cause is called Misfiring.
like you said, be hard to guess that, with no tools, no?>
the tech would drive it with the scan tool connected, and see if there are DTC errors, if yes, then he works those.
The CKP clearly shows DTC when if fails, not scanning is the sad song.
if no DTC , he barks up another tree's.
the EGR can stick open cause this.
if you fast right foot the throttle pedal is the stall (or near stall)
prevented, easy, kinda easy or not help.????
why not get that tuneup, can i presume the 900 was just to swap a $50 sensor is 30min work? (a rip) or did the do a full tuneup.
chapter 24, tell them to read page 28. (hark its Adjustable !!!)
here is the correct way to do CKP.
off "misfire page"
http://jeepdied.com/Misfire101.html
if done wrong, the sensor is destroyed at first start
or later. if the gap is wrong, the damage can happen over time.

4.0L CKP crank sensor only (install)
Quote: JEEP. Chapter 14 ) Read the words carefully this is no dream or magic, it's the truth.
"INSTALLATION - 4.0L
The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is mounted to the transmission bell housing at the left/rear side of the engine block (Fig. 21).
The sensor is adjustable and is attached with one bolt. A wire shield/ router is attached to the sensor (Fig. 21).
New replacement sensors will be equipped with a paper spacer glued to bottom of sensor. If installing(returning) a used sensor to vehicle, a new paper spacer must be installed to bottom of sensor.
This spacer will be ground off the first time engine is started. If spacer is not used, sensor will be broken the first time engine is started.
(1) New Sensors: Be sure paper spacer is installed to bottom of sensor. If not, obtain spacer PN05252229.
(2) Used Sensors: Clean bottom of sensor and install spacer PN05252229.
(3) Install sensor into transmission bell housing hole.
(4) Position sensor wire shield to sensor (Fig. 21).
(5) Push sensor against flywheel/drive plate. With sensor pushed against flywheel/drive plate, tighten mounting bolt to 7 N·m (60 in. lbs.) torque.
(6) Route sensor wiring harness into wire shield.
(7) Connect sensor pigtail harness electrical connector to main wiring harness.

I think this is the only Jeep engine with the non precision fit,(adjustable) and needing special care.
the stalls page is here.
http://jeepdied.com/Misfire101.html
the scan tool is a $10 to $100 item, way less than $900 over charge for one sensor swap.
if your read the 14 steps on that page, it covers all class failures for this.might even be bad spark plugs... omg never tuned up this decade is so common.
some aftermarket sensors sold the maker
ASSUMES the person has the calibration spacer,
if not BOOM.
here is the jeep page. free to see all parts on car.

the other engines, the CKP has precision mounts and does
not need CALIBRATION.
(general checks)
1: do the full tuneup. spark plugs, filters (air)
I think your other post shows it was....
2: scan it with it misfires !!! P03xx errors. what? (this is what you failed to do...)
3: check that EGR is clean.
4: check the ISC is clean, (if right foot, saves drastic rpm drop easy? then ISC can be stuck)
5: bad coil pack. $208. large x6 coil rail? DTCs for COIL? (again, no scans)
6: spark plug tips, black with carbon, black with oil, dripping fuel, green from antifreeze, (spark tips talk, ){called evidence|
7: check fuel pressure? and leakdown test, and injector balance test.
the exception to above is the 42RLE engine;trans
it has no calibration.
some jeep books fail to state this exception.
YOUR SECOND POST ON ckp. (CHANGED 2 TIMES)
SO WHY NOT SCAN IT?
you can not diagnose any modern cars lacking
a scan tool.
the 1 bolt sensor must be calibrated
the 2 bolt sensor , NO.
yes, tricky this, is on many 4.0L
they are on different sides too.
see that these 4 drawings.
see the 4 dwgs
the lower left engine has the spacer , in red circle
and has one bolt/nut.
all this is guessing...
we can guess all day the CKP is bad.
but not scanning it, invites all that...
endless it is , with over 50 causes.
