John, remove and try cleaning your EGR valve. Maybe give a good tune up, plugs, wires etc.,check timing and clean injectors.

The indications are that there is a electronic failure ocurring from overheating component
areas to check will be ignition control module, coil or ECM if efi engine
check that the coil is correct running voltage and is not a 7 volt coil running on 12 volts continuous as that can cause coil problems from overheating after a short period of time

Have your battery tested. When the battery has a problem the dodges will act this way.

you sure its not the breather tube for the t-case. about 3/8 hose if it is. the vacuum lines for the 4x4 are small plastic lines. red, blue, yellow, etc. think there are four of them

hi, you should find a serp. belt routing diagram on the cross member that supports your radiator. if not- disconnect neg batt terminal for safety. you'll need a long breaker bar metric. as most, if not all fasteners on your ram are in metric. cant remember right size socket, but just go through your metric set and "eyeball"it. once you have the proper socket-detention the belt by pulling breaker bar clockwise. remove old belt. it maybe useful to take a picture of how your old belt is routed with a camera equipped cell phone (if it is still on) so that if you get into trouble, you can look at the picture as a reference point. new serpentine belt install--insert new belt over the cooling fan route under crank pulley-over fan pulley, around p/s pump pulley,up and around a/c comp pulley, under idler pulley, over alternator pulley and finally around tensioner pulley. pull breaker bar clockwise to slip belt past and onto the tensioner pulley. release tension on tensioner. be sure to check tensioner indexing marks located on the tensioner arm this is to make sure the new belt is installed properly. reconnect neg batt cable to terminal-remove any hand tools from engine bay, start engine and observe belt operation. hope this helps!

switch is just above trans pan and below shift linkage requires a thin (crome 1" socket) to remove

Do you have enough antifeeze in your cooling system. If not fill & check again for heat. You may have a blockage. If so remove the in & out hoses to the heater core on firewall. Be careful not to damage core. Use a garden hose to flush the core one side to the other untill running clear water. put one hose on tight & clamp, put other on loose. Have someone start engine & slowly remove loose hose to let air escape. when fluid appears put hose on & tighten. Refill rad & resevoir. Heat engine up & check for heat. Also heat cable may be off under dash.

We have checked egr valve new, fuel pump, tune up,coil, cap had the computer checked what's next?
replace the ignition control module
check the ecm when it starts missing and backfiring as checking anything when cold defeats the purpose of checking for a hot electronic component
or simply replace the ecm with a known good one and see if the fault returns
feel the coil when it starts happening and if you cannot keep your fingers on the coil, it is too hot
