I have a 1999 saturn sc2 and got 2 codes p1404 and p0711 what do they do and how do i fix the problem? and also if you stop every once in awhile the engine will rev up somebody said that was the throttle...

Fix the two codes, and it might stop that occasional revving.
1404 is a malfunctioning EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation). That code specifically says the pintle is stuck open. This is usually caused by carbon deposits around the lower part of the valve. It will have to be taken off for cleaning or replacement. Use a knife blade or scraper to clean it. The pintle is like a pin on the bottom that raises (valve open) and lowers (valve closed) by vacuum applied to the valve. To remove the valve, remove the small exhaust tube attached to it. Valve is bolted to intake manifold by two screws with a gasket below it. When off, check the passages beneath it for exhaust deposits plugging the passages- if you see a lot, scrape or clean them out as best you can. EGR valves should not be very expensive. If you are unsure yours is good after trying to clean it, you may want to replace it-make sure you get a new gasket with the new one. If the old gasket got broken taking it off, buy a new gasket for it.
The code P0711 is for the transmission fluid temperature sensor. Sensor circuit range/performance is all it says. Apparently poor performance of the sensor or circuit as sensed by the computer. Try a new sensor, I would say. I don't know how or if it should be tested.
Good luck.

Now i dont know a lot about automatics especially modern ones with all this fancy electronics thats used nowdays but i think its a fault with the temperature sensor for the gearbox. But where its located and what it looks like i have no idea it could even be mounted inside the gearbox .Sorry not a very good answer from a mechanic but?? very few of our europeon cars come with auto transmission .Evan when i do know whats wrong i cannot buy the parts for the gearbox as only re-con boxes supplied by the dealer so best advice is to try a specialist in auto box repairs only .PS some of my best students when i used to teach mechanics many moons ago were the girls so no excuses like iam only a girl please
