SOURCE: bolts for the alternator

Go the auto parts store and they can either pull it up or they can let you use a thread gauge to tell you the threads and size.

How to tighten alternator belt on 1993 pathfinder

Four cylinder engine - loosen bottom pivot bolt on alternator, then loosen top bolt and pull the alternator away from the engine to tighten belt. When at proper tension, tighten top bolt to hold tension and tighten bottom pivot bolt.
Six cylinder engine - loosen the lock bolt at the bottom of the alternator, then use the adjustment bolt (perpendicular to the lock bolt) to tighten the belt tension. Once properly tensioned, tighten the lock bolt.

Remove and replace alternator

you didn't mentioned what type of vehichle or year, but most of these you will have to remove the tension from the belt tensioner, to do so, you will need a 13 - 15" size metric wrench, or 3/8 size ratchet, and a 13- 15" size metric socket , and hold back on to the tensioner towards the drivers side of the engine, this releases the tension from the belt, and then let the serpentine belt lay aside, then disconnect the negative battery cable from your battery, and then disconnect the wiring from the back of the alternator, and remove the hold down bolts that hold the alternator in place, then lift alternator from bolted on area, then install new alternator, plug up wiring at back of it , bolt the alternator back on, and then with a 13 -15 " metric wrench or socket, hold back on to the belt tensioner, and then slip the belt back into position, and release the tensioner slowly against the belt, make sure that the belt is lined up correctly on all of the pulleys, then reconnect the negative battery cable, then start the vehicle up., and check that the belt is operating ok. afterwards, you will most likely have to reset your radio functions , due to the battery cable being disconnected.

How do i replace the altenator

1. Remove the plastic air intake system which includes the air filter, 1 vacuum hose, the tube that runs to the carb, the tube that runs off to the left. There are three bolts that hold the bottom of the air filter housing on. Most of this system is a snap together assembly. Just pull it apart.

2. The alternator will have two bolts on the front bottom. The left one is a double sided bolt and the right one is a pass through bolt with a nut on the back. Stick a wrench or a short socket wrench on the nut behind the alternator and remove the pass through bolt from the front. Then remove the double sided bolt from the left side.

3. This leaves the alternator loose and being held by the belt. remove the belt from the alternator and wiggle and jiggle the alternator out of the mounting area (very tight squeeze to get it out). You can put a larger size can of fruit or something in the place of the alternator to hold the belt in place so you can remember how it looks.

4. You will need to loosen the belt tensioner to put the belt on the new alternator. Remove the can of fruit if you chose to do that but be careful to not accidentally remove the belt from the 5 or 6 different places it passes through. Place the new alternator, put in the bolts and tighten. Loosen the tensioner and put the belt on. Tighten the tensioner and adjust as needed. Replace the entire air intake system by snapping it all back together and bolting it in one piece at a time.

How do I replace the alternator on a 1996 Nissan Maxima?

This alternator has two mounting bolts, one on top (adjuster) and one at bottom (main bolt) You need to untight the top one but not completely, take the poly belt of. Than take the bottom bolt out and remove top one when holding the alternator. Put the new one in place but this time use the bottom bolt first, do not tight it completely, than put the belt on the pulley and use the top bolt. You will need to tight the bottom bolt, than pull the alternator with some bar but gentle to get the belt tight, hold it and than tight the top bolt.

How do you replace an alternator on 2001

I would need to know what trim model this car is. If it is an LS or LS Premium it is located on the lower passenger side of the car next to the frame and will require a flywheel holding tool(which is incredibly specialized and chances are you do not have one lying around) you will have to rent this tool from a parts store. You must remove the windshield wiper fluid container out of the way in order to get to the bolts on the top of the alternator. You will also have to remove the passenger side tire and the splashguards in order to get to the bottom of the alternator to remove the bottom bolts, remove the alternator, and place the flywheel holding tool to prevent the camshaft from spinning while you try to pull the alternator. This repair will take nearly a day to do, and also requires a special wrench size for a couple of the bolts besides the flywheel tool. I did it once and swore to myself to never do it again because of how much time and effort it took. If you have a LS or LS Premium just take it to the dealership because this is a hefty task and highly frustrating all at the same time.

How do I get the bottom bolt out of alternator for 2004 scion xb? I can't seem to get it loose.

There is a bolt on the bottom of the alt that holds it.
You should be able to use a 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet with a 12mm socket. (I only felt it, so I am guessing)
But 12mm seems to be a very common size for Scion and Toyota in general.

The bolt goes through two ears (or lobes) that are part of the engine block. The lobes are on either side of a "tunnel" that is part of the alt's housing. If it is too difficult, try shooting some penetrating oil into the back, where the threads are set into the lobe on the block.
Careful not to spray any into the alt itself.

Alternator

There are 2 bolts that hold the alternator in position. One bolt is near the top of the alternator, the other is near the bottom. The bottom bolt threads through the end of the ADJUSTMENT bolt (which is at a 90 degree angle to this mounting bolt, and faces threaded end w/ adjustment nut to alternator). Loosen 2 mounting bolts, adjust tension at adjustment nut (near alternator), tighten 2 mounting bolts (upper bolt 33 ft lbs, Lower mounting bolt 18 ft lbs). countrycurt0
