Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Is the main problem here. the other code P0118 may be a bad temprature sensor or your thermostate needs to be changed. Last it could be a weak water pump.

So what is an EGR system and how does it work? EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation, and as its name implies, this system allows exhaust gasses from your car to be re-circulated into the engine, helping to reduce emissions. These systems are mostly comprised of the EGR valve, a DPFE (Delta Pressure Feedback EGR) sensor, hoses, a vacuum regulator, some vacuum lines, wiring, the computer and the exhaust tube leading to the valve itself.
The car's wiring can be tested in the normal fashion by looking for broken and lose wire, and all vacuum lines can be checked easily for cracks, leaks and correct routing.
The last thing i would then check is the the EGR valve, EGR vacuum regulator and DPFE sensor (or similar flow sensor).
I hope this helps and good luck

SOURCE: 1999 Firebird SES Codes P0420 and P1404

It can be related. Was this a real highflow like a maganaflow or catco or was it one of the straight through designs? if you can see through it, even if it is marketed as a cat, it isnt.

Fault code p0401

Most probably the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation system) is full of gunk, generated by the exhaust gas and breeder fumes and needs to be cleaned. Though it might be some other system that triggers this error. You could do the following to see if it can be remedied.
  • Check/Clean Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System
  • Check/Replace Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve
  • Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve
It is likely this cannot be fixed easily and needs a full diagnostics and system cleanup at the Dealer/Skoda authorized service center. Might cost a lot since you probably need to remove the intake manifold, etc. to get the system cleaned properly.
You can read more about the code and the issue at ross-tech:

What code ? are a few different ones for EGR valve > Low & high circuit voltage , testing circuits , PCM testing etc.... no code tells you to replace the EGR valve without testing . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

The DTC P0405 is for (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor Circuit "A" Low)

DTC P0406 is for (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor Circuit "A" High)

This would indicate a problem with the EGR valve sensor, or the EGR valve itself is malfunctioning.

My Cavalier shows error code P0405, what could the problem be

P0405 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor Circuit Low Voltage

You may have to replace the EGR sensor, but remove it and clean it up good to try it again first. Sometimes the pipe feeding exhaust gas up to them gets plugged.

Disgnostic code meaning

It sounds like you have a failure of the EGR valve.
