Surely sounds like a low voltage issue. Relays commonly flash between open and closed when the power drops below 10 volts. Also other indicators in your descrp. explain the same. I would suggest giving the battery a good charge. Also if you can get your hands on a multi-meter and verify voltage that would be good. You can get one at walmart for around 10 bucks. Volts DC is what you want. Besides if you get it you'll def find other uses for it. Let me know if you need farther help

did you receive the Nissan Service and Maintenance Guide, when you purchased your vehicle? if not go to www.nissanusa.com/pdf/techpubs/2006/2006_N_SMG.pdf
to get the 2006 manual it should be the same, or go to www.nissanusa.com use the "for owners" tab top right and you can download your specfic mileage service

Negative battery cable Air inlet tube Harness bracket Wiring at the starter Starter
Install or connect the following:
Starter and torque the bolts to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm) Starter electrical connectors Harness bracket Air inlet tube Negative battery cable

If you are afraid that running air conditioning after a long trip causing over heat then have pressure test. Taking a long time to start happens due to 2 problems: 1- The cold start valve is not operating. This due to a problem with the coolant temperature sensor bad or a cold start valve itself. 2- Poor compress pressure from each cylinders due to a leakage in the heat gasket as a result from overheating due to inefficient cooling.
