I suggest you have your car checked as soon as possible - while a rattling exhaust isn't desperately urgent it could be the cat breaking up which might later restrict the flow of gases. Most importantly excessively loose timing belts or chains tend to make most noise when the engine is idling. If the noise is being caused by this delay could be very expensive.

SOURCE: MY 91" TOWN CAR SIGNATURE HAS BEEN MAKING A LOUD

hi this sounds like to me you might have a loose baffel in the box, the reason why the sound dissapates when you get to a certain speed is because the baffel is pushed up or down due to the pressure when you slow down the pressure then releases the baffel and it starts rattling again, you might also have a broken clamp on your exhaust or even a missing rubber bush check these out first...good luck

SOURCE: I HAVE A 2000 LICOLN TOWNCAR AND IT IS MAKING A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND THAT SEEMS TO COME FROM THE BACK OF THE ENGINE I CHECKED UNDER MY CAR AND THE NOISE IS LOUDER AT THE OIL PAN

I would remove or have your oil pan removed and check for any unwanted pieces in there. Maybe first see if there is anything stuck to drain screw. Drain oil maybe... You may have blown a rod.

SOURCE: I have an 03 Lincoln town car and I have to replace the intake manifold because it's leaking around the thermostat housing. . I haven't replaced it yet but I have noticed a loud rattling tapping nois

I would replace the intake asap if you already have a replacement. Is there coolent in the oil or a milky looking stuff in the oil or on the oil filler cap. Your piston rod bearings do not like coolant and can go bad very fast if there is coolent in the oil. That could be the sound you are hearing.

Running loud

Either your exhaust popped apart,or maybe someone stole your catalytic converter!(This does happen!)

There is a rattling noise when the car is idling. when I accelerate it quits.

there are two things that cause this, one is the front engine pulley comes apart, this is very loud and comes from passenger side of engine, the next is the catalytic converter heat shield is broken.

The noise from the engine of a kia pregio is so loud especially when sitting at the back. could u help me lessen the sound or is there a solution for this? thank you

Take this to shop and have the car inspected for exhaust laeks, broken mounts, other mechanical troubles that may be causing the noise.

You didn't say which model or engine.
Check for loose heat shields, broken engine or transmission mounts.

Loud Vibration from Car When Idle

You need to take the car back to the place that did the exhaust work. What you are hearing is the exhaust system (pipe, muffler, etc.) touching the underside of the car. The exhaust system is mounted along the underside of the car with exhaust hangers (usually made of rubber) also called insulators. The reason you don't hear it when going is because when you step on the gas the engine torques causing the exhaust system to move away from what it is touching.
