replacement lock cyldiners come with a blank key for reference only. you need to have your old key read by a dealer parts department for resitance value, (should be for free) then cut the correct vats key....there are 6 different resistances of chips as i recall. if you do not have the original key for car...the vehicle will need to be towed into a dealership (unless they let you borrow the VATS (vehicle anti-theft system) interigator tool .its now antiquated so they might with a deposit. that will read the security module to allow for correct code identification...these are your only 2 choices..i hope this helps you
ps your 4 thumbs up would be appreciated!

SOURCE: 98 olds acheiva won't start,
If the security light is on, then it can only be one thing. The security system is failing and immobilizing your car. Go to this link and read up on the problem. The security light is a dead give away that the security is messed up. If you have no little black chip in the shaft of your key, then this means you must have a passlock that runs on the transponder. You need the PERMANENT fix from this site. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

SOURCE: key was left on and battery dead, next day recharge battery to 13 volts and car will not start. When key is turn to start all lights in dash go out except check engine light. Also my engine analyzer
this solution solves many and varied electronic issues with automobiles of different makes ,models and year . Simply disconect the battery ,wait 20 to 30 minuts ,clean battery posts and connectors ,if you do not have a battery post cleaner ,sandpaper will also work , the 30 min wait will allow the vehicle computor to reset itself .reconnect the battery ,do not use a hammer to reconnect cable to posts use the correct wrench 7/16 to 1/2 in is the approx size that you will need .if this does not work it is good knowledge for future referance pertaining to vehicle ellectronic issues ,I hope this little bit of trivial information works for you ,troubl shooting vehicle electronics can prove to be a nightmare esspecially if the problem is 2 different issues causing the problem .good luck
