(door lock actuator)all doors have one in them, they weeken, and sometimes work to open, and some times to lock, or not at all. only fix is to replace each of them as they go out, usually cost abt 20 to 40 bucks a piece
if the electric door lock actuator froze up this could cause the problem as it would not want to unlock either way it is inside the door panel hooked to the door latch
As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you replace the door lock actuator. It's the motor that locks and unlocks the door mechanism. Once replaced you'll be good.
Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya! Have a good one!
I would say that the actuator on the passenger door lock is bad, and tripping the sensor to the switch. I don't think the boot light has anything to do with the door locks. That, I think is another issue.
Central locking works by way of little electric motors that engages and disengages the door lock. The drivers door has an additional set of contacts in the actuator which signal the controller when it changes position. The controller activates the servo motors when a signal is received from the receiver or from the drivers door servo motor. So in your case I suspect the motor part of the drivers door actuator is done for. To replace you will have to remove the inner driver's door panel to get at the actuator. The actuator itself cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced as a unit.
