Question about 2002 BMW 5 Series
Its disabling (fade out) to select "settings" and "computer" options. i still can see them but cant select them.it happens shortly after i start the car and time to time i am not able to turn on the radio .or some of the options disappear or reappear on the display.and the last thing it did, it displayed a 4 number code to enter, without it not able to start the car ! please help! what could be the problem?

You might want to suspect a stereo amplifier. Does your car have DSP? In any case, look in the trunk on the left hand side. You will find your radio amplifier back there. It will have about a 3in connector with a bunch of twisted pair wiring. Remove the connector and make sure there is no water contamination. All sound processing takes place in the amp.

If the radio is displaying code wait, or wait, then the ignition and radio must remain on for 1hour. I would contact a dealer within the USA and provide them with your radio serial number. The serial number can be displayed in the radio by pressing and holding down the "M" button while turning on the ignition.

ihad same problem.drove me crazy till ifitted a new electric fuel pump half waydown chassis n/s under pass seat area..euro car parts stock them.

Bad electrical connection. clean all contacts little bit of grease on surfaces , get rid of double bolt connrction to cabel Battery terminals.
