Daniel, you'll be asking what tools next? It takes as long as it takes. No two mechanics will do the same time. Find a parts diagram and look at what needs to come apart. Try youtube for help

Not 100% sure but if you look up under exhaust manifold area, on block,is usually a common place. Simple hex head plug into block on most. Are you sure just pulling lower rad hose, and thermostat housing off won't get you where you need to be?

How to replace upper intake manifold gaskets - Ford Explorer

Intake manafold gasket

If you are just talking about the cost of the gaskets there is kind of an upper (plenum) and a lower intake set. If you just need the plenum gasket they are only about 30 dollars. If you need the entire set there are a couple of option. Just a regular set runs you about 70 (that's both the upper plenum and lower intake manifold but FelPro puts out a great gasket set called "permadry" and the runs about 165 dollars. If you were looking for labor cost it depends on the hourly labor rate of the shop you are using. The labor guide says that if you are replacing both upper & lower it shows 3.4 hours in labor. If it's just the plenum it says 2 hours of labor. Hope this is what you are looking for and by the way I am going by the most common engine found for the Windstar for that year and that engine is a 3.8 liter. If you happen to have the 3.0 the prices and labor hours may be different.

Sir, My ford windstar 1998 give me the code P0174,sytem too lean(bank2), can you tell me what the problem is , it gives a heavy white smoke when i start the engine . just put a new cylinder head gasket...

It's an intake gasket. Another option, however rare is the air flow meter. But not likely. The white smoke is most likely antifreeze leaking into either a cylinder, or the intake and entering a cylinder, exiting as white smoke. The bad intake gasket (or intake manifold) could be causing both problems. I'd try a new set of gaskets and just the upper half of the intake manifold.

Windstar 2000 3.8. Runs fine. Checked for codes and got p0171 and p0174. Cleaned the MAF sensor. Went to erase codes and found the there is a third one in there now. p0113. What is wrong?

The upper intake manifold gaskets and isolators (the bolts that hold the manifold down) leak and cause the p0171 and p0174. The reason they leak is due to a missing baffle in the front valve cover which allows some oil into the upper intake which swells the gaskets and wears them. The manifold gaskets and valve cover should be replaced. But before having this done check to see if the black plastic hose on the back of the rubber intake hose(between the throttle body and maf) has dislodged. This happens alot when a new air filter is installed and will cause the same codes.

Since you are getting the 171 and 174 at the same time you need to replace the mass air flow sensor.then clear the codes. After which take the car for a drive and let me know how it does.

Ford Windstar - Codes PO171 & PO174

Problem is most likely the gaskets and isolator bolts between upper and lower intake manifolds.
Look at the rubber grommets on the bolts that bolt the upper intake to the lower. If they rubber grommets are black then this is most likely the concern. They have a new style gasket and bolts for this and the ford part number are XF2Z-9H486-AA for the gaskets and 3F2Z-9S479-AA for bolts (1 pack of 8 bolts).
