Yea the car will not recurculate the unburned gas the EGR recurculates the emissions so you get better gas milage

My Audi A3 sport 2002 has a fault code 17852 Ive cleaned egr valve and potentiometer but still won't start and still getting same code any ideas would be truly grateful.?

An EGR code should not affect the starting of the vehicle. Is there a fuel supply? Is the vehicle getting spark? Timing belt equipped and if so, is timing belt ok?

Egr flow insufficient

Depends on the year, make, model and engine size to determine the reason for the insufficient EGR flow which sets a p0401 engine code. If it is a Ford vehicle the most common failure is a bad DPFE sensor. If it is a GM vehicle with an electronic EGR valve, the valve is usually bad. Most imports use a EGR temp sensor which ends up being a bad sensor or vacuum line to the valve. Send me more info and I will be glad to help you fix the problem.

Egr code showing, changed it 2x's. and the gas cap, n the radiateor cap, n the( power stering lines, they where leaking, n sway bars). anyway what else will show egr code? H2O senser?

Common in automobile emission systems since the early 1970s, the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve controls an engine's emission of smog-causing nitrous oxides, or NOx. Its job is to route a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. That lowers combustion temperature to below 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit - the temperature at which NOx gases form.

EGR flow is controlled by the engine's computer, which opens or closes the valve as needed. The EGR system is, for the most part, in the "out of sight, out of mind" category, and typical doesn't require regular maintenance. But if it gets clogged with carbon deposits, you'll see your "check engine" light come on, and a code (perhapsP0401or P0402 or P0403) will show that there is insufficient flow. That typically results from a vehicle being driven persistently on short trips that don't allow the engine to fully warm up. Flow problems also can be caused by carbon buildup due to failure to change the oil frequently enough.

A clogged EGR valve not only results in higher emissions, it can affect fuel economy and cause rough idling - even serious engine damage. Valves can usually be cleaned, but replacement is often recommended.

Advice? Make sure to put on some highway or freeway miles, and always change the oil according to the maintenance schedule in your owner's manual.

My 2000 dodge grand caravan 3.8 check engine light lit up and indicated p0134 oxygen sensor was replaced and light turn off 15 minutes later while on the road light turn on again put back on scanner now...

the codes for the oxygen sensors and egr valve dont neccassarily mean those parts are "bad". O2 sensor codes are usually caused by a different problem all together. There job is to monitor oxygen levels in the exhaust to make sure it is clean enough to meet emmisions standards. If you have a vaccuum leak, misfire, or a fuel problem those codes can show up. The egr valve recycles the exhaust gas in another attempt to clean the impurities. If the vavle was truley bad it would of affected the was the vehicle idled and drove on the highway. The egr activates when the throttle is depressed it opens at 1/4 of full throttle and closes at idle. Though they get pretty dirty the usually dont just fail under normal driving conditions. I would say that po171 code which if i remember right is a o2 sensor lean code, is showing now you have a tune up that needs to be done or a leaking intake manifold. A dirty or failed pcv valve can also cause that code because of it being operated by vaccuum from the engine. If any vaccuum is lost or restricted the hole combustion process will be incorrect.

The check engine light is on, the EGR valve has been replaced, code P0401 appears on diagnostic. The engine is 4 cyl DOHC 2 wd. slight exhaust odor at times in vehicle.

Are you reset the stored codes there? The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve controls an engine's emission of smog-causing nitrous oxides, or NOx. Its job is to route a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. That lowers combustion temperature to below 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit - the temperature at which NOx gases form.

About thie generic fault code, I suggtes check this description and tips for solution information: DTC-P0401-Tests (keep in midn that this code applied for alot brands, Hyundai included).

Have a 1995 ford contour and took it to pepboys and they got multiple codes. One of the codes came up twice code 332 says egr valve not opening could this cause all the other codes? My husband has checked...

DTC P0332 is for a knock sensor, not egr valve. That's not to say one of the multiple codes you've mentioned wasn't for the egr valve.

What are some of the characteristics the vehicle is showing. By the way, what is the vehicle? In one place it says 1995 contour, in another it says 1995 explorer.

No tenago dinero y mi carro hyundai 2004 me esta dando problemas no coje la riversa y cambia de cantaso y le pusieren la maquina y me *** estos codigos p2o96,p0734,p0733,p1709,p2096

P0733 - Gear 3 Incorrect ratio
P0734 - Gear 4 Incorrect ratio
P1709 - Park or Neutral Position Switch out of Self-Test Range
Check out this TSB 03-40-016

Some 2000-2002 ACCENT vehicles may experience the following conditions: Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0722: No pulse generator-B signal Third-gear "Fail-Safe" condition
"Check Engine" light on

If the vehicle experiences the above symptoms: Inspect the pulse generator-B and replace if necessary.
Reprogram the TCM using the Hi-Scan Pro

VEHICLES AFFECTED: Model: 2000-2002 Accent vehicles with automatic transmissions
Affected vehicle production date range:
3 DR: Produced through October 11, 2002
4 DR: Produced through September 3, 2002

Affected vehicle identification number (VIN) range:
3 DR: Produced through KMHCF35C63U235415
4 DR: Produced through KMHCG45C03U412818

The problem is you will have to take it to the dealer to get the reprogram done.

P2096 - Fuel trim too lean. Usually means vacuum leak. Look for crushed, broken or melted off vacuum hoses near intake manifold. Or an obvious hissing noise at a normal idle. If so replace or repair clear codes your done. If not obvious take carb cleaner spray with nozzle attached car running & go over all vacuum hoses, intake manifold, EGR valve see if idle raises if so you found leak. Repair. Could also be bad oxygen sensor switching bad O2 sensor but rarely.

Hope this helps!

95 olds cutlass shifts eratic and hard, I have no error code related to the transmission that I know of, the only code I have is faulty selnoid in the EGR valve, but during dianostic testing it shows---...

Change the transmission fluid and filter. Most vehicle owners do not do this enough (if at all!) and do not realize its importance. Fluid becomes gummed up which dramatically affects shift points and throttle valve performance. With your severity, I would suggest a full backflush by a mechanic.

Check Engine Light Just Came On..

Remove the EGR valve and clean it out. It's probably carboned up really bad constricting the exhaust flow. Also remove the EGR tubes and clean them out as well. I use brake cleaner and keep spraying the pieces out until it's pretty clean and re-assemble.
