Possible ignition switch problem?

Just recently when i turn the key to start the car, the dash lights flickered, then went completely dead and there was no sound coming from the engine when the key was in the start position. When I tried it again, the dash lights came on normally and the car started. It also appears to be cutting off power to the clock intermittently. Am afraid of getting somewhere and not being able to restart the vehicle.

I have a 95 Dodge stratus..2.4 L. The past week it was having trouble starting. After turning key off then on..3..sometimes 4.. it would start right up. Next morning had to do same thing. Yesterday I took...

Yes, it has to do with the ignition switch. but just as possible could be a battery connection from the battery to the switch. So, sometimes turning key to ON causes no dash lights or warning lights to come on?
That sounds like a bad switch, or more likely, a bad battery connection or a bad connection between the battery and the switch. First thing to do is check the charge of the battery, it must register at least 12 volts. 12.6 volts is the ideal for a good and fully charged battery. Clean and tighten all battery connections.

Sometimes when you have a poor connection, from looseness to corrosion, and you turn key and see all warning lights and gauges come on, and then turn key to start and everything goes black...that can happen because the power surge causes the bad connection to come apart. So check for loose or corroded connections.

Have ln85 hilux won't start some time turn key and nothing. Have replaced starter motor, ignition switch and battery still the Same will randomly not start

There could be multiple issues here and it's hard to say without really looking/running numbers - is there power (lights/dash symbols/etc) when you turn the key? Or completely dead?

If completely dead, did you see a random brake light while driving? That could indicate a bad alternator. Does jumping it start her? If so, possible you have a parasitic draw in the system draining the battery.

Ground wires are important to check, also.

Off hand, without much data to work with, mass air flow sensors can cause a no start - try unplugging this and starting. You can also backprobe to test sensor and harness for ground. This may not throw a code right away.

I see "sometime," so if assuming a start at times and others not randomly - recheck ignition switch assembly wires, follow them and see if any are loose. A friend had this issue and found the ignition switch assembly wire coming from the alarm was loose.

No codes and random starting, I'd lean wiring. Maybe retrace your steps - it sounds like you tackled the more indicative issues already.

After my car went completely dead, I replaced the battery and now when I attempt to crank the car, the dash lights flicker and it doesn't turn over or make any sound. What could be the problem now?

Pull the battery cables back off clean the battery post and cables reconnect it to make sure there is a good connection. If it still has a issue with that more than likely it is either the ignition switch or the ECU went bad.

Recently bought a 99 CR-V. Had it tuned up and fixed almost everything. Runs very smoothly. One remaining problem is engine going dead while driving or just won't start after parking. Dash lights flicker...

Old post.
same here, there is only 2 paths (besides wild $$$ guessing)
1: yes, do scan it, if the tool goes dead (comms down) the ECU lost 12vdc power. (the CEL goes dead to , just key on, if no power to ECU/PCM.
2: or diagnose the no start.

what is flicker?, the dash lights come on key on to tell you power is ok and all things running them thinks they are happy,
some cars have immobilzers, and it does flicker at IMMO mode.
blocking you.
be specific on lights. what lights to what.
the operators guide is free, and shows each light.

1994 camaro z28 electrical system dead

A couple of things can be the cause. You could have an issue with your battery connection, or your ignition switch is dead. Ignition switch issues tend to kill all the power to the car. They can go without warning. It's located on the driver's side on the steering column.

No power to ignition - ? please help! 91 amigo 2.3l

If everything is turning on, and there's power... check for 12V at the alternator. it may be out now.... or a connector came loose, or wire broke.

Engine does not start?

Make sure that the connections at the battery is clean and free of acid built up. Take the terminals of and clean them propperly

It could also be the ignition switch at the wiring end not making proper contact anymore, try and wiggle the ignition wiring if possible and see if there is any change in the status when the ignition is switch on
