It comes and goes and is really strong around rear seats.
Have the vehicle checked for leaks from a cracked or corroded fuel line. Since there are other vehicles of that model that have had that problem with a fuel line, that is where I would be looking first. You need to get the car up on a lift/hoist and inspect the fuel lines thoroughly from under the vehicle.
If no leaking fuel line is found I would be having a good look at the integrity of the fuel filler tube.
There is a leak of some kind somewhere in the system otherwise you would not be getting such a strong fuel smell penetrating into the cabin.

Most fuel smells inside the vehicle are the result of leaks in the fuel system. Have all fuel lines and injectors/seals inspected for leaks/seepage
