SOURCE: x-type jaguar automatic (gear box fault)

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

SOURCE: Jaguar s type 03 gearbox fault warning light on dashboard, gear stuck in 4, reverse engages ok, what could it be?

sounds like it is in get you home because of gearbox failure if its the early box with metal sump check selector cable adjustment it critical as the J gate micro switches and the linear switch on the side of the gearbox have to be in sync with each other. on the other hand if it is the later gearbox with plastic sump, which i suspect it will be, check it has not lost some of its oil due to leaking sump, common problem! other wise check fault codes in transmission control module, any codes relating to incorrect gear ratio means internal falure most times

How do i fix gearbox fault warning in a jaguar x type 2002, some times, the engine does not rev after starting and goes off on it's own.

you need to get the fault codes out of the tcm (transmission control module) to help sort that out but check the fluid level first. the jatco gearbox in that model year xtype auto are very unreliable

2003 Jaguar x-type transmission problem

if it is a jatco 5 speed box it needs rebuilding or replacing. rubbish gearbox, but double check selector cable adjustment first.try using a fault code reader to check dtc codes in the tcm,[transmission control module] was the fluid clean that you drained out? or did it look dark instead of crimson and smell burnt? did you check the level with the fluid temp between 30c and 50c the correct procedure if not followed and you get it wrong can make a big difference to gearbox performance, but it sounds like the box is on its way out have.worked on these cars since day one.

Forward push while stopping Jaguar S-Type 2005 model.

This is sometimes called the lurch, disconnect the battery for 30 mins to re-set the "memory" in the gearbox, this should solve your problem, the gearbox will re-learn your driving style. Make sure you have your radio code before you disconnect.

Jaguar X SE 2.5 gearbox problem

hey johnhoile,

Sorry to break the bad new to you, put you most likely need a transmission depending on what codes are stored in the system. I have dont numerous automatic transmission on x-types all they all started with a gear box fault light on.

If the codes have something to do with a incorrect gear ration that is a guarantee red flag for a new transmission
