Trans output sensor?? speed sensor maybe? Did the speedometer start working? This is where you have to start. Important feature for shifting. This is electrical and checking wires for continuity. If it always goes in gear and drives, I would look hard at replacing the solenoid package. It's on the front side of the transmission. Costs around $300. You have to remove the cooler lines, a sensor, and 3 bolts to remove it. Clean it, around/behind it first. You absolutely do NOT want any dirt getting in the holes on the transmission.

check all your fuses. if you boosted it before changing starter there is a chance u blew a fuse. I would disconect battery and wait 60seconds then re attach to reset the computer

I have a 2003 Dodge Neon. The speedometer isn't working and the automatic transmission won't shift out of first gear. What could it be?

I had a similar issue with my 99. Wouldn't shift out of first, speedometer wouldn't work, etc. Turned out to be the interface module between the engine and ******.
We have had this happen to two Stratuses. In both cases, it turned out to the output sensor on the transmission. The first time it cost me $125 to find that out and have it changed at Kennedy Transmission. The second time, I did it myself. The part costs $18 at NAPA and it is super easy to access and change. Just jack up the driver's side and look up at the ******. The sensor is straight up on the side.

The output shaft sensor is where the TCM gets its info. And what the speedometer runs off of. It is best to have a diagnostic ran on this first. But shooting from the hip, I would go for the output sensor.

Mounted on the trany is a speedometer sensor. The vehical will not up-shift it, sensor, is malfunctioning. The vehicles computer doesn't know that it is not going fast enough to change gears.

This same thing happened to my daughter,s car, and it ended up being fixed with a transmission speed sensor. This sensor not only runs the speedometer, it helps tell the transmission when to shift too.

Check the speed sensor on the tranny cause if the speedometer is not working the tranny will not shift.The computer will not recognize that the transmission is in motion so will not shift.

when i bought mine the speedometer odomoter and raido didn't work
put in a fuse that wasnt' in got them all and now when u are driveing it shifts out of gears or sometimes it wont shift past first any ideas?
