Did you replace the fuel filter? Why do you think the old pump went bad? But you could also have a stuck purge valve. If you hear a hiss when you open the gas cap, then replace the purge valve.

To decide if the fuel system is still the problem, it would seem to me you need to put a fuel pressure gauge on the injector rail. I think it should be around 32 psi. When you rev the engine, it should go up a few psi. If it is high or low, it could be the fuel pressure regulator, which is also the return valve.

However, it could also be something unrelated, like a vacuum leak from the intake manifold or a vacuum hose that fell off.

Testimonial: "Replaced gas cap also relay mechanic so no codes we are confused also noticed rpm runs low when stopping"

I have a 1999 dodge ram with a 318 that recently lost power and stuttered to a stall. Tried to restart, it kicks over and runs for about 2 seconds then stutters and dies. When I turn the key...not...

any number of things from fuses to sensors, in my experience it sounds like some power cells in your battery went, battery and alternator both may have to be replace. also could be clogged fuel filters to a bad fuel pump. literally i could go on they make these things so complex now

It was driving fine an all of a sudden it just died on me an locked up it will turn over but not starting?

If your care died with stuttering, then I would suspect a fuel flow problem. So the fuel filter or the fuel pump. If it just stopped with no indications then I would suspect electrical. So the coil or a relay.

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

1992 chevrolet lumina that cuts off sometimes won't start acts like it has trash in the line. It has new fuel filter, tune up, core pads, plugs and wires.

I hade the same problem, but I figured it out, My car is a 1992 chevey lumina Base modle sadan, v6/3.1L This car is electricly based, regardless of your problem replace all Fuses and Relays your fule injection, heater cor, every thing. trust me.

MY CAR PROBLEM: car would stutter and want to die every time I came to a stop, or slowed down. When I start the car it would idle really high, when I shift in to drive it would go back to normal, for a little bit. I checked my electrical center located on passenger side under the hood. I found that my fule pump relay had blown out. this is the main reason for fule pump going out. theas fuses are the real thing that makes this car run. replace them all. thay are like 20.00 dollars a pop but it will save you hundreds.

SECOND: bought a bottle of fule injection cleaner. spray this into your throttle body, connected to the air filter. lots of gunk. after that car stopped stuttering and has not died yet. I did my maintance on 7/15/08

good place to start. good luck
