This has been an ongoing problem since brake friction material stopped being asbestos based. Some none-asbestos compounds are very porous and can contain a quantity of different metals.

The problem of a sticking parking brake can be a mechanical linkage or cable type problem or the friction material welding itself to the brake disc or drum or a combination of both. This tends to be a particular problem on vehicles where the usage rarely or never get the brakes thoroughly hot.

Brakes are open to the atmosphere and can become saturated with dew or condensation.

One customer experienced the problem so severely he had to apply a lot of power to get moving at all. The car started with a tremendous bang as the friction material was torn from the disc pad backing. Later I needed to use a hammer and chisel to clean the disc.

Fitting only OE friction material might help and not using the parking brake overnight...

1998 chevy 3500 brake lights stay on

I'm going to comment on this but don't quote me.
There is a tab or pin in the side of the switch that has to be moved to allow the switch to self-adjust. There should have been instructions in the box. You have to push the tab in or hold it to move the switch then release it. I don't think the switch should move with the pedal.
You can check with the parts store about the instruction sheet.
Or the GM dealer.

Brake light does not work after replacing bulb

It's usually the brake pedal is sticking or you might just need to adjust the pin when you apply your brakes it makes those lights stays on. sometimes you can spray a wd-40 and it'll go away.. this pin is located on top of the brake pedal when you look underneath the steering wheel column or panel....hoped i helped you on this one...
The brake light switch may be either stuck or broken.

Get down in the driver's footwell, and follow the brake pedal arm up under the dash. Look for the switch (see link for a picture), see if the moving arm on it moves freely as the pedal is depressed. If not, try spraying some lube on it (WD-40 or the like) and working it to get it to move freely.

If the arm won't move freely, or the lights don't turn on even when you move the arm, the switch should be removed and replaced.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when I leave in the morning their is a vibration in the front tires that lasts about 10-20 seconds. It feels like the tires are skipping

If it's a vibration, it might be a brake pad staying in contact with the disk. Normally the pads push away when the car starts moving. (A normal condition called "runout") Try stopping your Jeep tonite by using only rear brakes. (hand brake) Don't step on the brake pedal at all. Then see if it does it in the morning. Don't step on the brake pedal in the morning till the test 20 sec's is over.

If the problem is a thump thump sound it's probably a tire flat spot from setting. Have the tires just been replaced? Could be a softer tirs material.

Brakes don't open up brakes lock pads stay against

you will need to find out if this is due to stuck pads on the bracket or a brake hose or bad caliper, the first step is to open the bleeder screw on the caliper and see if the brakes release if they due then its a hose if they dont then move to checking caliper, remove the caliper and see if the pads slide on and off the bracket with ease if not then clean braket so pads slide on by hand and also use a c clamp and push piston back in, this should be easy if its real hard to turn the c clamp then caliper is bad, and last is the caliper slides, this is the slides that the caliper moves on, the bolts bolt to it, make sure they slide in and out with ease.

Replaced front brake pads, tried to test drive the van and it won't mve. Replaced the left front caliper and rotor still won't move, whats wrong?

how hard was it to install the new pads in the caliper over the rotors,if it was a very tight fit then you may have the incorrect pads for the application.you replaced only the left side caliper but don`t say why only that one.the right caliper could be hanging up,or did the brake flex hose get twisted when you put things back together this can cause the brakes to stay on as the fluid won`t be allowed to return allowing the caliper to go to its rest position unlocking the brakes.

step on the brake when you start it ,if you have no brake lights you need to replace your brake switch ,its a built in safety feature preventing you from getting rearended for no lights thats why you cant move the lever from park
