SOURCE: 1991 Toyota Camry DX - Front Passenger Door Lock won't disengage

Your power door locke solenoid is seized. You will need to replace it. You are going to have to get the entire door panel off, and then reach in to manually pull the solenoid arm to retract the lock mechanism. Then the door will open.

SOURCE: Drive Door lock only works manually

It is not that hard to fix. Actuater is sold as part of the assembly. You can't just replace it by itself. Order the part online for a lot less than dealer. I learned that when the passenger side did the same thing a couple months later and I saved $150 on line. Remove the inside door panel. Remove lock assembly from door. Remove door handle.

SOURCE: 1999 Toyota Camry door lock and unlock issues

I believe this was done as a safety feature. It stops a potential car hyjacker from sneaking in the passenger door when you open the driver door. I know recent Hyundai models are set up such that if you turn the key in the driver's door once it only unlocks the driver's door. If you turn it twice in quick succession it unlocks all of the doors. Maybe the Camry is set up the same way.

SOURCE: 99 4-runner limited-power door locks dont lock, but will unlock

I have found a ridiculous solution for this door lock issue. As many people have mentioned, it does involve the control panel under the driver side dash. I noticed that if I pushed the control panel/fusebox in while working the key fob and/or door lock switch, IT WORKED! So, my silly solution was to insert a t-ball (regulation size) between the fusebox/control panel and the paneling closest to the driver on the top side of the fusebox. IT WORKS!!

Glad I didn't spend $500 for Toyota dealer to fix.

Hope my son doesn't miss his t-ball!!

Why is my key just turning around in my drivers door on my vivaro van, and its locked , so cant get in.

It's possible that the locking mechanism in your Vivaro van's driver's door has become jammed or broken, causing your key to turn without unlocking the door. Here are a few things you can try to get your door unlocked:
  1. Try another key: If you have a spare key, try using it to unlock the door. If the spare key also doesn't work, then it's likely a problem with the locking mechanism.
  2. Spray lubricant into the lock: Sometimes, the locking mechanism can become jammed due to dirt or debris. Try spraying a lubricant such as WD-40 or graphite powder into the lock and then gently turning the key to see if this helps.
  3. Use a lock de-icer: If the weather is cold, the lock may be frozen. Try using a lock de-icer to thaw the lock before attempting to turn the key.
  4. Call a locksmith: If none of the above methods work, it's best to call a locksmith or a professional mechanic to help you gain access to your van.
In any case, it's important to get the issue fixed as soon as possible to avoid being locked out of your van again in the future.

Will not lock but will unlock

Is this the automatic locking from the key fob? What vehicle? This is hard to answer without more info, but this time of year a likely situation is that your locks are frozen using some lock de-icer or heating up your key is a good option. If the freezing problem is severe, your locking mechanism may have broken.

Driver Door won't unlock

Its probably froze if you live in a cold state. If that is the case you can get some lock de-icer and put that in where the key goes or if you have a remote start and the heat happens to be on then it might thaw it that way.

I own a 93 buick regal custom. i live in canada where the temperature hits just below freezing, anyhow i hadn't used my car in about 3 days, came to try to open it, lock was frozen, so we put lock de-icer...

it sounds like the linkage is now broken or the latch inside the door is not working or is disconnected. I live here in Alaska and I have seen and worked on this same problem many, many times. -- one thing you can do is remove the inside door panel to expose the linkage rods and make sure that one of them did not get unhooked while you were trying to slim jim the door. if a linkage is disconnected then just reconnect it ( as long as the clip is not broken -- you can get new clips at either the dealer or a automotive locksmith shop. but when you do get to the inside of the door what you will see is -- one rod going from the lock to the latch,, one rod going from the latch to the lock/unlock button,, there will be a rod going from the outside door handle down to the latch and there is also a rod going from the inside door handle to the latch. the one you want to look at is the one from the lock to the latch -- if it is loose, then it is disconnected, re-connect and you should be good to go. also to help keep this from happening again, spray lubrication into ALL your locks and cycle key in and out a few times and re-spray ( use ONLY Teflon based lube -- like Tri-flow* or LPS,, NO WD-40 !!! ) this will help keep all the moisture out of the pins and waffers in the lock itself, also while doing the panel removal and latch fixing keep the car in the warm garage to help dry out any moisture that may still be in the door and locks. I hope this helps -- when you start to pull things apart feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions (( [email protected] )) ,, I have been a locksmith for 18 years and I have torn down many door panels and I can walk you through the whole thing.. BUT if you do not want to get your hands dirty -- just make an appointment at your local automotive locksmith shop and for $20 -$35 dollars they will do all this in about 30 to 45 minutes,, plus they willl lube everything up for you and you will have hassle free locks for a long time. hope all works out well --- and Happy NewYear !!

I have a a pick-up B-3000 extend cab and the rear door are stuck from the button. How can opens these doors?

  • If it's simply the car door lock that's frozen, try heating your car key with a lighter and inserting it into the lock. The heat from the metal may be enough to thaw the ice and allow you to unlock it. To ensure that the lock will not freeze again, spray it with WD-40.

  • If the entire door is frozen, carefully chip the ice away from the edges with a scraper. Be careful not to scratch the paint of the car. If you cannot chip the ice away, try pouring some windshield washer fluid on the icy areas; windshield washer fluid contains alcohol and this may help melt the ice.

  • Use a blow dryer set on high to melt the surrounding ice.

  • The best way to open a frozen car door and prevent future frustration is to purchase de-icer. Many good brands are available at hardware and auto shops - just be sure the solvent displaces moisture and leaves behind a lubricant. If the lock itself is frozen, spray the product directly into the key hole, wait five seconds and then put in your key and try to turn it. Most of these products have straws that help direct the product out of the can and into small areas, making the de-icing process easy.

Once the door is open, consider spraying the de-icer along the hinges of the door to keep other parts from freezing. Keep the de-icer in your home or garage where you can easily find it. Do not keep it in your vehicle. Having de-icer in your frozen vehicle won't do you much good.

How do you unlock the car door of 1996 jaguar xj6 if the battery is dead? tried opening with the key manually; lock does not pop all the way up; only partially; therefore it remains locked

Please consider the following...

Normally uses remote unlock (key remains unused).

Possible solution, open keyhole cover by particially inserting key. Place WD-40 or other silicone spray lube in the key hole (lots). Operate the key several times... eventually, it will clean the unused parts and open the door.
