Yes, look behind the trunk liner on the passenger side approximately where the filler cover would be and you will find a wire rope with a plastic handle on the end. Pull it about an inch and your fuel filler door will pop open.

You will first need to remove the plastic piece behind the inner door handle that you use to pull the door shut with and there should be a 10mm bolt inside there behind the insulation. The plastic cover behind the inner door lever handle will need to come out. It's only in with clips. Remove the reflective lens on the end of the panel and you will see a phillips head screw inside. It's a long screw so be ready for many turns to get it out. Next, your power window controls will need to come out and they are only snapped into place but be careful with them because plastic prongs can be broken off if not pried out in the right direction. The same goes for the door lock switch. Unplug both once out. You will also see a triangle plastic piece (can break easily) towards the front top side of the panel. Make sure it clears it's way out when removing the panel. The rest of the panel is held up with downward facing plastic clips. Sounds hard but really it's all pretty simple. Study the back of the panel before putting it back on and take your time.

Check your power to your fuel pump. Put your ear to the filler for the gas and get someone to turn on the key, do not crank.. You should here the fuel pump cut on. If not suspect pump problem. You can also take the lin loose at the fuel filter and check to see if gas comes out after key is turned on and work your way to the engine if you get gas there just follow the lines.

SOURCE: HOW DO CHANGE A FUEL PUMP ON A 93 LINCOLN MARK 8

Removal & Installation See fuel pump under fuel tank in this section.

CAUTION Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

  1. If equipped with air suspension, the air suspension switch, located on a side panel of the trunk compartment, must be turned to the OFF position before raising the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure using the recommended procedure.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle and place on a suitable work bench.
  6. Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the fuel pump retaining flange so it will not enter the tank during pump removal and installation.
  7. On 1988–94 models, turn the fuel pump locking ring counterclockwise and remove the locking ring.
  8. On 1995–00 models, remove the retaining bolts around the perimeter of the fuel pump module.
  9. Remove the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Remove and discard the seal ring.
To install:
  1. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange, fuel tank mounting surface and seal ring groove.
  2. Apply a light coating of grease on a new seal ring to hold it in place during assembly and install it in the seal ring groove.
  3. Install the fuel pump/sending unit assembly carefully to ensure the filter is not damaged. Make sure the locating keys are in the keyways and the seal ring remains in the groove.
  4. Hold the pump assembly in place and install the locking ring finger-tight. Make sure all the locking tabs are under the tank lock ring tabs.
  5. Rotate the locking ring clockwise until the ring is against the stops.
  6. Install the fuel tank into the vehicle.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. If equipped with air suspension, turn the air suspension switch to the ON position.
  9. Add a minimum of 10 gallons of fuel to the tank and check for leaks.
  10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  11. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position several times to pressurize the fuel system. Check for fuel leaks and correct as necessary.
  12. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  13. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.

There is another release in the right rear passenger side of the trunk. A little WD-40 on the latch will help.

Fuel door will not open

In trunk on left side there should be a manual pull cable to operate the door if the electrical solenoid fails to operate when pushing the fuel door button on the left side of the dash near the trunk lid button.

Trunk will not open fuel door will not open all fuses ok

You have listed the vehicle is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6. The trunk is not electronic and only unlocks with the key as well as both the gas doors. Any issues here then it is your key or the actual trunk latch. If you do have a 1988 model year then the trunk lock has 3 positions. locked all the time, unlocked all the time or the vertical position locks and unlocks with the vehicles drivers door lock. If the trunk button (paddle) is loose and moves but nothing happens then the inside rod has come loose and you will have to manually operate the latch by removing the license plate and taking a long screw driver through the lower plastic bungs. The fuel flap is a separate unite and does have a manual release but you need to open the trunk to get to it. If the fuel flap stays locked all the time then the actually filler neck module will need replacing. If you have a 1997 which has the electronic release button to open the trunk (95-2003) Then you will need to firstly lock all door and unlock the drivers door 2 times. Check the fuel flap is now released, if not then the fuel flap actuator located on the filler neck inside the trunk is bad. If the trunk does not open with the remote, inside car switch and trunk mounted switch then the passenger side trunk harness is broken. Open the trunk with the key and on the right(passenger) hinge there is a grey plastic cover, remove that cover and carefully peel back the wiring harness cover and you will find 1 or more broken wires. Once the wires are repaired then I recommend you zip tie them in place and retest the trunk release button. If this does not answer any of your questions please feel free to email [email protected]
