DTC P1519: IAC Valve Circuit Malfunction

1. Reset the PCM.
   

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
   
   Is DTC P1519 indicated? YES -

   Go to step 3.
   NO -

   Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at the IAC valve and the PCM.n
   

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
   

2. Disconnect the IAC valve 3P connector.
   

3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
   

1. Measure voltage between IAC valve 3P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.
   
   Is there battery voltage? YES -

   Go to step 7.
   NO -

   Repair open in the wire between the IAC valve and the PGM-FI main relay.n
   

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
   

1. Check for continuity between body ground and IAC valve 3P connector terminal No. 1.
   
   Is there continuity? YES -

   Go to step 9.
   NO -

   Repair open in the wire between the IAC valve and G101.n
   

1. Disconnect PCM connector B (25P).
   

1. Check for continuity between body ground and PCM connector terminal B23.
   
   Is there continuity? YES -

   Repair short in the wire between the IAC valve and the PCM (B23).n
   NO -

   Go to step 11.
   

1. Connect IAC valve 3P connector terminal No. 3 to body ground with a jumper wire.
   

1. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B23 and body ground.
   
   Is there continuity? YES -

   Go to step 13.
   NO -

   Repair open in the wire between the IAC valve and the PCM (B23).n
   

1. Remove the jumper wire from the IAC valve 3P connector, then reconnect the IAC valve 3P connector.
   

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
   

1. Measure voltage between body ground and PCM connector terminal B23.
   
   Is there battery voltage? YES -

   Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original PCM.n
   NO -

   Replace the IAC valve.n
   

Oil Life?
After your oil change, hold down the trip reset button(i think it is) near the seat belt sing for about 15 secs. Then let go when Oil Life is flashing. Then press again and hold for about 5 secs.

Checking the wiring
Check the cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #B23 (#C23) and leak diagnostic unit terminal #2. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Remedy as necessary.

Volvo recommends for Volvo S80, changing the timing belt every 105,000 miles. Needless to say, they are pretty religious about this now.
The B20, B21, B23, and B230 engines are non-interference engines, meaning that the camshaft can be rotated independently of the crankshaft and no damage will result to the engine. That is, if the timing belt breaks, the valves will not hit the pistons; the engine will simply stop.
On the other hand, the B234 16-valve engines and any of the other Volvo multi valve engines are interference engines. Loss of the timing belt in these engines will result in severe or fatal engine damage.
Your car might be fitted with:
2.8L (VIN 90, 6th & 7th digit, B6284T eng, turbo)
2.9L (VIN 94, 6th & 7th digit, B6294S eng)

B is oil and filter change with brake inspection and clean, lube , adjust
1 would be tire rotation
2 is replace engine and cabin air filters
3 is replace transmission fluid

HI. I WILL TELL YOU SOMETHING THAT WAS TOLD TO ME FROM A PERSON THAT WORKS IN SURVICE DEPT. AT A DEALERS BUT I WILL NOT SAY THE NAME. HE SAYS WHEN THEY GET THEM IN THERE AND THEY CHECK THEM OUT AND THEN GO UNDER THE DASHPOP OUT THE (SURVICE ENGINE LIGHT ) SO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU SINK A LOT OF MONEY IN IT. THATS WHAT I DO, BUT I EXPLAIN IT TO THEPERSON WHO OWNES THE CAR. THANKS

Go ahead and swap the transmissions, and that should be about it. The b230 and b23 engines are basically the same block, so there should be no trouble there.

it should near the back of the trans. it will be a two prong plug
