  • Rose Salamon Jan 11, 2016

Hi jeff , thank you for your reply .. I found the power steering fluid reservoir.. I had to take off the LH front guard to have access to it .. But the power steering fuild was full , no leaking anywhere.. But I still have no power steering .. The holden vectra 2004 cd ZC 2.2lt , power steering is electronic .. I still don't know why I do not have power steering .. When I turn the car on there is NO noise coming from the power steering .. I have even tried disconnecting the battery hoping it might reset its self but no that didn't work.. Any suggestions what could be the problem??? Maybe the power steering pump ??? Any thoughts .. Thanks

Have your car hooked up to a scan tool , there maybe a DTC - diagnostic trouble code

  • Rose Salamon Jan 12, 2016

Hi Jeff, thank you for your help . The mechanic seems to think surely it is the power steering pump , I hope he is right .. As I don't know much about this car everything basically is electronic in this car and it's a headache even for the mechanics to work on .. I will mention to the mechanic to put the computer onto the car and do a reading to see what come up .. He should of done that to begin with now I'm so confused about the car and having faith in the mechanic, not sure but after he puts the power steering pump on and that's not the problem I'm worried then the mechanic might say it's the steering rack as I am a female.. It just stopped working suddley I turned the car on and from that start I had no power steering , I had no warning signs no noise no leaking nothing just stopped working. I checked all fuses every one of the fuses are good .. I found the power steering fluid reservoir bottle and it was actually full no leaking but no noise in that area either..

Check for a used part , you have auto salvage yards there ? Or try on the internet $100.00 or $200.00 maybe

  • Rose Salamon Jan 16, 2016

Thanks again Jeff , you have been very helpful . I will try that , asking the salvage yards .. Cheers

What powers the power steering pump ? Serpentine belt or is it located on the back of the cylinder head ,hooked to cam shaft ?

  • Rose Salamon Jan 12, 2016

Took to the mechanic's , he checked the power steering pump and checked all around even the belt . He said nothing is wrong with the Power steering pump that is causing the promblem of having no power steering ... He said there is a electrical short somewhere and sending me to a auto electrician .. I'll let you know the outcome as I'm even baffled about this promblem, it has been a Challenge I must admitt .cheers

  • Jeff Armer Jan 12, 2016

Good luck Rose , an Cheers to you

  • Rose Salamon Jan 15, 2016

Hi jeff , the auto electrician hooked up the computer on the holden vectra 2004 ZC 2.2ltr . The error came up ecu module for the power steering with a code . He's going to ring the holden dealer on Monday to see what this actually code stands for .. I just hope this ecu module is not that expensive to fix .. I trust the auto electrican judgement he's been in the family working on all our cars for years.. I'll keep you updated , this problem with the power steering has been mind baffling and challaging that's for sure!

  • Jeff Armer Jan 16, 2016

Hi Rose ,your vehicle is a product of GM is it not ? I'm in the states an I know GM had a recall on some of these electronic power steering systems , may be yours has as well !

  • Rose Salamon Feb 01, 2016

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you for all your responses and help.
I was told by the auto electrican it is the power steering pump . So I changed it and put power steering fluid in again , started the car surprise it is still not the problem . I even have gone to the length of changing the power steering pump thinking it may be flauty .. Still the car has no power steering . I don't know at this point .. After changing the power steering pump does the car need to be reset by the computer in order for the power steering to work Jeff ???

That I will try , if not I'm thinking maybe the steering rack , I don't know anymore ..

Jeff , any ideas would be a great insight .

    Kindest Regards
    Rose

  • Rose Salamon Feb 01, 2016

SOURCE: POWER STEERING LEAKING FUILD

It could be a bad seal on the rack - jack the car up, get underneath (use jackstands for safety), and have someone pour fluid in - maybe you can see where it's leaking.

The main problem I think is : bad brake pad ,the brake pad are too thick, and power brake booster may have more vacuum pressure, should rechange a right one , also ,clutch disc may be the problem for its thickness.

Vectra dti steering resovour where is it

In the engine bay at the front of the engine? It should have a black cap that says "power steering fuild" or something along those lines on the lid. Look around the engine bay till you find it really. There are not a lot of resorvours with caps in the engine bay and they should all be labeled. Hope this helps

Re Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 16v 1998, Power steering fluid leak from under the passenger foot well. How do I fix it?

First thing you need to do is pinpoint the source of the leak EXACTLY, clean off all the fluid and then put some fluid in the system, have someone start the car and while the car is supported securely off the ground go under and locate the leak, wear safety goggles so fluid doesn't get in your eyes.

How and where do I add power steering fuild to a 1989 Brougham? Can't find the dip stick for the steering fuild and don;t kn ow when I should add the fuild. Can you help?

You add fluid at the P/S reservoir which is belt driven. There is a large cap on top. Remove the cap and there is a built in dip stick. Unless you have a leak you will never have to add fluid.

THIS PART IS EITHER AN OIL COOLER OR POWER STEERING FLUID COOLER. IF THE COOLER IS LEAKING, IT CAN BE BYPASSED BY PUTTING THE TWO HOSES TOGETHER WITH A FITTING AND TWO HOSE CLAMPS. GOOD LUCK, THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA
