Feel the heater hoses that go to the heater core under the hood. With the engine warmed up, both hoses should be hot. If not, I would think you have a plugged up heater core.
Possible minimum idle airflow off causing a low idle situation. Possible vacuum leak. Check vacuum hoses for splits/disconnection. Check throttle plate for being dirty/gummed up. If dirty clean with carb spray and toothbrush
Try releasing the gas cap and screwing it back in. If the relief valve for the gas vapor canister is clogged, you can build up negative pressure in the gas cap causing difficulty getting fuel at low RPMs. If releasing the gas cap makes a difference, the fix may be simply making sure the canister orifice is cleared.
I have a 2000 XLT also. Is yours blowing luke warm air at best? If so then you need to have your core flushed. The dealership wanted $800 to put a new core in it. You can get a coolant flush done but you must specifically ask them if it flushes the core. 99% of the coolant flushes bypass the heater core. If they sound unsure make them ask someone else otherwise you will waste $90+. You can flush it yourself but it is very tricky. I can take some pictures if you need them.
If you have no warm air at all then your core is most likely bad or clogged beyond flushing.
ABS------ Anti Lock Brakes will cause a chatter if applied with a lot of weight pushing it. An E350 is a big rig. Might ask your Ford Tech about that possibility.
