SOURCE: AIR VENT PROBLEM

Chevrolet 2003 TrailBlazer

For a digital air flow system try resetting the HVAC unit. Either take out the fuse for the HVAC module or disconnect the battery for 5 or 10 minutes. Reconnect battery or replace fuse. Turn the ignition to ON and DO NOT STARTor ATTEMPT to START ENGINE !!. You should hear the actuators, motors etc resetting. This should take about 2 minutes . Then you can start engine. If this does not work, you may have a bad actuator under the dash.

The default configuration when all vacuum fails is to defrost vents. Most likely your vacuum supply to the switch is weak. Check the connection of the supply line to the intake manifold for damage. If no problem there, trace it to the switch on the control panel. If there is an accumulator, make sure it isn't leaking and is storing vacuum. If all this is good, look at any other vacuum lines connected to the intake manifold that may be leaking and possibly reducing the vacuum supply to the HVAC control line. Let me know if you have more questions.

No air coming through vents

There are 3 likely possibilities:

  1. Bad heater motor - a dead heater motor means no air flow
  2. Disconnected or hole in air flow hose - sometimes a vent hose will dislodge just enough to disrupt air flow. Check underneath the inside of the passenger compartment for any loose hose connections. You can also turn the heat (or vent) on HI and check the air flow hose for any pinholes that also could disrupt your air flow
  3. Bad Control Center - if the Control Center is bad, it won't trigger the heater motor to turn on and push air

Heat/cool comes out of floor and defrost but not vent setting

There are 2 vacuum lines that control your hvac system, one of them is either disconnected or dry-rotted and needs replaced. I was able to fix it by purchasing a 3-way splitter for a vacuum line, bought some rubber vacuum line and spliced into the cruise-control vacuum line. Worked like a charm. If it's not that, you could have a vacuum leak anywhere alone the line from the intake manifold to the evap canister

One of the Actuators for the doors inside your dash that controls and diverts air might not be working correctly. You may have to either replace the Actuator or Replace the A/C Heater Control. Your vehicle does not come with a Cabin Air Filter.

The Air flows through only the defrost and feet vents

Inside the ventilation system there is gates that open and close to direct the air flow. These are operated on vacuum on most vehicles. The hose for that perticular gate may have disconnected somehow or has a hole in it. I suggest you take the heater controls out and see if there is a plug with a series of colored hoses on it. it so you'll have to trace each of them to see which one is the problem. Now you may be able to get some help from you local dealers mechanic who just may know the color code for that gate. (which would be a bonus) Good Luck
