Missing gas cap will most likely result in a check engine light. Upon reinstalling the cap after many drive cycles the light will extinguish.

In no case will a missing gas cap disable the engine.

2005 DODGE CARAVAN STALLS OUT AFTER YOU FILL IT UP WITH GAS

When filling the tank, stop filling when the pump clicks off. It sounds like you are overfilling the tank getting gas onto the built in evaporator.

Just stop filing when pump clicks off.

My 2009 Dodge Caliber feel like it skipping so i change the spark plugs and stop so the gas cap light keep coming on so my gas cap and stop for a while and now its started back feel like it skipping

It may not be the gas cap at all, it may be the gas tank seal at the gas cap or a vacuum leak in the tank. Also could be a defective part.....it happens. Pressure tools check it out. Good luck, Frank M

the gas cap ,vacuumbreaker opens and sucks in fresh moisture laden air, and then that vapor, freezes.
no power on earth can stop that. (key off)
wait till spring and stop worry.

I have a 2005 vw jetta an I changed fuel pump fuel filter an it keeps vapor locking on me it will drive for about a hour n the heat an then it will start jerking an shut off at a stop light then i will...

The problem could be a clogged air vent in the gas cap, causing a vacuum in the gas tank . The next time this happens, loosen the gas cap and see if the problem goes away. If so, replace the gas cap.

The last 5-6 I have gotten gas, 2005 Sportage hard to start at gas pump, but then fine after a few miles - mechanic is clueless!

Your code, assuming it was evap related, also means other issues aside from a loose gas cap. Your fuel system "closes" down to purge unburned fuel back through the engine. A loose gas cap will stop this process, as in why the check engine light will go on. Also, there is a vent solenoid, purge solenoid, fuel tank pressure sensor, and a charcoal canister that are involved. My guess, but if you have a bad vent solenoid, you may have symptoms like yours. Any "good" technician can test this for you.

2006 Saturn Relay Check Engine Light

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

My Mazda MPV randomly begins to "chug" and act like it will die at a stop. the check engine light comes on. Started about 6 months ago. Seems to happen more when it rains. If I tighten the gas cap it stops...

the gas cap and check engine light thing are related in terms of the EVAP system, or the evaporative emisions system. This is NOT where your surge, or "chug" is coming from. The surge could be coming from a Exhaust Gas Recurculation valve that is starting to bind or "hang up" a bit. DO you notice this happens more at lights, or when coming to a stop? if so it could be an idle air control vavle.
