How do you remove and replace the key lock cylinder in the glove box? I understand that the new cylinder just plugs in, but how do you get the old one out?

if you can open the door, there is a small 'window' on the case inside the glove box. With a pointed tool (paper clip?) there is a tab you need to push in through the window. While holding the tab down, spin the cylinder to remove. If it is a locking cylinder, while pushing the tab down, insert the key. This will hold the tab down. Then you can turn the cylinder to remove it.
1. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) compartment latch 2. Inset the key into the I/P compartment door lock cylinder. Rotate the key clockwise. 3. Insert a small diameter tool into the slot on the upper side of the door handle cylinder housing. Depress and hold the lock cylinder retainer while rotating the key further clockwise to the stop. 4. Pull to remove lock cylinder
It is located above th glove box you will need to take the upper dash pad off and the glove box asbly out and the module is attached to the dash reinforcement at the top of the glove box vats modules very rarely go bad it could be the ing lock cylinder ck for contanuity of the 2 wires at the bottom of the steering column in the orange insulation with the key in the lock cylinder and ohm meter across the 2 wires you should get an ohm reading then turn the lock cylinder and if the wiring goes to open the wires are broken and the lock cylinder needs to be replaced.
it is conceivable to remove the screws under the glove box assembly to help gain access to the lock mech. If this is not possible you might need to drill the lock. I am assuming you r not able to open the box. I f you are able to open it then replacing it is a breeze.
A dealer or qualified locksmith can make a key from the VIN, provided the lock cylinders are original. Usually they will require proof of ownership before doing so.
There are no screws. It appears to be press fit.
