Starter fluid won't work if the starter won't turn the engine over.
Get the battery load tested...it may not have enough juice to start the truck but have enough to light up the lights
check your fuses and battery connections at the starter. Is the anti theft light flashing? If it is that's your problem. Wait 10 minutes insert the key...wait for the theft light to go out before trying to start.
if that doesn't work you will need to get the starter checked...which means you will have to take it off.
-the wires are not correctly re-installed for the starter.
- u may need wiring diagram
Did you take pictures before you took it apart, or did you tag wires before unconnecting them.
if it wont turn over 1st check the ground s on the car and the battery 1st. your battery can be fully charged and the car will not start even over night this can happen. then look at the starter. Note: if you have over 109K on the car and the timing belt has never been replaced you will need to have this checked as well.
installed new fuel pump and filter in 97 cavalier 2.2 the car will run for a couple seconds and shut off if you spary it with starting fluid it will stay running
check fuel pump fuse and relay also the fuel injection fuse and ecu fuse, if they are ok remove the back seat and you will see a cover remove the cover and check for voltage at the pump plug and ground, you hear the pump work if not need new pump
my 1999 chevy suburban will start with starter fluid bbut wont stay running already replaced coil, rotor on distribitor, and oil pump cant seem to figure it out any ideas
new battery....or alternator.....try boosting it if it starts leave it running and remove cables... if it quits when u remove jumper cables then u need alternator or check its fuseable link ........if it stays running it was your battery and your starter was probably ok i...u didnt need to change it or both starter and battery were bad ....starters kill batteries when they are failing and start to draw too much amperage from battery ...another quick way to tell a battery is dead,,,,,,is to look and see if its swollen or bulging...tis the season for batteries and alternaters ;-) good luck
i was in the same situation inheriting one myself that was sitting for 7 years and had the same problem i changed ann fluids and got it cranking and almost started but the ground wire was glowing red so i sanded down a spot and put in a new ground. it got it running but never stayed so all i did was put a new alternator and ran new fuel threw it and it runs like a million bucks.now the only thing is the brake lines or master cylinder.
