The engine is running rich. It is receiving more fuel than air. There are many things that can cause this. One of the most common issues on this engine is a stuck EGR valve. These valves tend to get stuck open with carbon deposits and will cause this problem. You can remove the valve and inspect the pintels on the bottom of the valve for being stuck open. Usually the larger pintel will be stuck open and you may actually see a piece of carbon causing it to be stuck open.

SOURCE: I have a 1999 oldsmobile

fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail is probably it or the egr valve is stuck open allowing burnt fuel to flood the intake, im leaning towards the fuel pressure regulator because the o2sensor is probably reading rich or if its reading lean then i would choose the egr valve . good luck

SOURCE: car runs rough at idle

clean out ur throttle body, just follow the hose from the air filter to the throttle body. Need 2 people to do this. Don't remove the hose completely from the throttle body. Just enuff to be able to spray ur intake cleaner into the throttle body. Do this especially if its worse when the motor is hot, as this would confirm the problem.

SOURCE: 4.3 vortec runs OK cold, runs rough or dies warm

Your cylinder 4 misfire would most likely be a bad plug wire. And it is common for cars to have driveability problems with a crankshaft sensor code, esspecialy after the car has warmed up that is when you will notice the problem. The crank sensors are pretty simple to change and relativley inexpensive maybe around 40.00 for the part. If you look around the crank shaft pulley you will see a sensor with usually 2 bolts and a couple of wires attatched to it. If the vehicle gets to a point that it won't start, spin the motor over watching the tach on your dash and if it is not moving while cranking that means the sensor gave out. Good luck. swiftautorepairs.com

SOURCE: my chevy blazer 2000 ha a p0101 code changed the mass air flow sensor still does not want to accelerate

Hi there:
This code is set when the MAF (Mass Air Flow) meter is not sending the PCM the correct information. This can be due to a bad conection of the rubber intake hose between the MAF and the Throttle plate opening, a dirty air filter, a dirty mass air flow or a bad mass air flow.

Most programmer have you tie into the iat sensor in the mass air flow. this can cause the the iat sensor oto short out.

Hope helps.

2000 Kia Sephia.I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and prior, I had replaced the idle throttle sensor. After the Mass, now my idle is over 2 grand?!

run the fault codes to get an idea of the faulty sensors
black smoke and soot is extreme over fueling
that can be from
faulty injectors--leaking tips or seals
failed heated oxygen sensor --one in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter
excessive fuel pressure ---faulty pressure regulator
mass air flow sensor--faulty wiring /connections
ambient air temp sensor ---faulty will tell that ECM that it needs more fuel as it is too cold ( sort of like a choke operation)
there are mechanics that will come with scanners to read the codes or if you can drive it go to an autotune or similar like place shop and have it read for free

Will a throttle position sensor cause my 96 model Chevy blazer 4.3L vortec get bad gas mileage I'm only getting 225 miles to a full tank

I would replace both o2 sensors and take the mass air flow sensor off and clean it with a non-chlroated brake cleaner. Also a tune-up sure won't hurt sparkplugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor.Your fuel milage should increase.

1995 Ford Escort LX, runs rough inconsistently, over 35mph it runs fine, under 35mph it is extremely rough, it is idling around 1000rpm - it used to idle around 500rmp. From an idle it is slow to get...

First of all there is a vacume leak, second how is the air filter?, tell the husband to change the MAF mass air flow sensor and I would also change the TEMP tempreature sensor.

1995 Blazer with Vortec V-6 was running fine until 4 days ago. Check engine light came on, now it starts and idles fine, but when placed in gear, idle drops, engine bogs and dies. I am targeting the Idle...

IAC idler air control valve bumps up the RPM and doesnot let the engine to die, how ever if its not the IAC then Ide be looking at the TEMP sensor which migh have a fair line crack or may be the MAF mass air flow sensor might be bad, seems like the engine is not geting air, check the air filter first.

The car stalls out while driving sometimes, but it will start right back up with problem. Theres no engine light on, or anything else on.

. Check the Mass Air Flow Sensor voltages. Verify good battery voltage to the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the White/Black wire. Verify good grounds for the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the two Black wires - look for 0.05 volts or less to be ok. Check the output voltage from the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the White wire - specification is less than 0.5 volts key on engine off and 1.0 - 1.3 volts at warm idle. The Green/Orange wire at the Mass Air Flow Sensor is not used. The Mass Air Flow Sensor can test good and still be defective.

2. Make sure the timing belt is not off a tooth. Can check ignition timing to see if one bank is on. May need to get into compression on each bank but a timing belt off a tooth or two will idle poorly but can run better at higher RPM.

I got a 1994 gmc s15 jimmy with the vortec 4.3 it idles rough but whaen i drive it give it gas it runs great what would cause that.

sounds like it could be a problem in the IAC circuit. The Idle Air Control valve manages how much air gets into the engine while @ idle. It receives commands from the ECM based on inputs from at least the mass air flow, coolant temp, throttle position and oxygen sensors

I found my engine Mitsubishi pajero fieldmaster Model 2002 with rough idle when I started this morning. It took sometime before running well

unsure if this is petrol or diesel model. check basics first, air filter not clogged, sparkplugs not sooted and gaps burnt wide. if it is a GDI V6 model, thay have common fault with dirty throttle body(TB) and air mass unit, causes rough idle and gets worse over weeks until it doesnt improve.this can be easily fixed by cleaning with solvents available for air flow sensors and tb's. if engine has plastic cover, remove this to access TB
