SOURCE: 2003 passat starts, but "airbag fault"
Hi and welcome to FixYa!
To resolve the water leak, the weather strip on the rear should be replaced. The weather strip is the rubber that secures the interior from water. Regarding the airbag fault, as a first course of action please remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. then reconnect it again to reset the system and the airbag fault can be resolve.
If it doesn't help then the problem will rely on the airbag maintenance. Please see dealership to have the car diagnosed to see the fault and fix.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
I would located the fuse box and pull out the fuse for the radio. Keep it out for a minute then replace. That might reset the radio. If that doesn't work, maybe it's still under warranty.
