if your radiator light is on. means your water level in the radiaror has dropped 1/3 of it's fluids. get a gallon of 50/50 antifreeze(its already premixed) just add it into the radiator. for best results start car when it's cold start adding intill full
the easy way to do this is put your heating on full widows open ,run the engine with expansion bottle cap off ,this will remove the air in both your heater core and the radiator.
If the engine temp rise while sitting at lights then you have an air flow through radiator problem. Electric fans not working or viscous fan hub is faulty. high heat except at speed may indicate an air lock in the cooling system or coolant level in the radiator. Check at radiator cap not the reservoir.
After changing the thermostat you might have developed an air lock in the radiator. Does the radiator knock or push antifreeze out with the car running and the cap off. The water pump should also be checked and you can do that by looking in the radiator while running and with the cap off. You should see the fluid moving through the radiator if it is circulating Just be careful not to get burned if it pushes water out of the radiator.
You've looked in all the right places so far, and presuming the water pump is operating correctly (fan belt adjusted) and there is sufficient oil to lubricate motor, I'd suggest checking your ignition timing. If the timing is too far advanced i.e.firing too much before top dead centre-BTDC, then a motor is inclined to over-heat. Another cause of over heating is a lean fuel mixture. Examine spark plug electrodes - they should be brown to light tan colour. Light grey to white indicates lean burn and subsequent over-heat. Take care around a hot engine.
If the engine overheated while driving, damage to the cylinder head gasket or engine block/cylinder head may have been done, which would prevent the vehicle from starting.
A standard engine compression check will tell the tale.
remove the radiator cap and let the car run for 30 minutes to let the air out of the heater coil, these radiator caps on the 2008 Impala will not bleed off, while running notice if air bubbles air slowly rising to the top of the radiator cap, re-install cap and see if this fixes problem, we also purchased a new radiator cap, this fixed my wifes car.
Turns out the radiator was leaking, so the coolant kept running out causing the temp light to go on. as a temporary fix, you can keep topping up the coolant, but otherwise you are going to need to get that radiator fixed. by the way, audi 90s have TWO radiators; in my case it was the smaller radiator that had gone.
new radiator later, and it was fixed. unfortunatley, my temp gauge has never work...
