Your transmission is going out, sorry to be the bearer of bad news dude. You have an internal pressure leak. That's why it's catching and releasing. You have to build up the pressure in it to get it to engage the clutchplates. Everytime it does that, you're getting closer and closer to it not going back into gear. Park it if you can, otherwise you will be towing it in a couple of weeks if driven every day.

remove top engine cover, 4 t 30 screws and then pull off both covers on top of valve covers to expose spark plug coils, disconnect and remove all 8,a 5/8 spark plug socket and a combination of extensions will allow removal of plugs, torque to 30 nm and re install in reverse order

You need to remove the top cover 1st. Then remove the gray trim covers on the left and right banks by pulling straight up.You will find individual coils in each cylinder. Disconnect the connector of the coil and pull the coil straight up.The plugs are under each coil.

If you can reach the retaining bolts and maneuver it out of the vehicle without removing eh tank then no. If you are blocked from accessing the bolts that hold it in place then it will have to be removed.

It's on the side of the transmission. drivers side. Once you get under the truck you will see the shift cable going to the transmission. the range sensor is mounted on the transmission under the cable arm. easy to replace.
