Since it only tries to start with the key on and the clutch pressed, that indicates that there is no short to ground since the area involved is the hot side of the circuit. There is a starter relay in the circuit, but if it failed open, you would get a no-crank condition. If it failed closed, the starter would run continuous until you pulled the fuse or disconnected the battery. What most likely has happened is that the ignition switch itself has malfunctioned internally, applying voltage to the START contacts when in the RUN position.

My starter will not engage.on my 1992 Honda accord lx wagon.

Standard tranny?,Auto tranny? Possible starter.. No power to starter..Neutral safety switch... Clutch pedal switch. Test starter signal wire power with test light at the starter to illiminate the above. If power available at this wire when key is held in the crank position, the above can be illiminated and a starter is most likely the problem

Where is the neutral safety switch located on a manual transmission for a 2003 KIA Spectra

I am by no means an expert on Kias. That being said, i would think there wouldn't be a NEUTRAL safety switch on a manual transmission.

There should however be a CLUTCH pedal safety switch that will keep the starter from engaging unless the clutch pedal is depressed.

That switch should be located under the dashboard attached to a bracket near the top of the clutch pedal swing arm.

Hope this helps.

Starter motor will not engage

I am taking this as the starter not turning. You have safety switches on the brake pedal lever or clutch pedal lever. Sometimes the signal loss will even prevent the brakelights from working.

The drivers feet can hit and dislodge the safety switch or even break it. This prevents the power from reaching the starter solenoid. Check to see if you have brakelights.

How do I locate my neutral saftey switch on my 1997 Toyota Tercel?

Normally, only automatic transmission cars are equipped with a neutral safety switch. There is a switch on the clutch pedal up under the dash that will not allow the starter to engage unless the clutch is depressed.

I installed a salvaged engine in my 1996 mercury mystique . The engine came out of an automatic while my car is a standard shift. I used the wiring harness that came with the engine but to my surprise I...

There is no neutral safety switch on the manual shift car, there is a clutch inhibitor switch at the clutch pedal. Before you do anything I would look at the wiring harness very closely.Ford had problems because they installed low temp wire in some of these cars and the insulation falls off and you will have crazy electrical problems. You can jump the two wires at the clutch switch to test the system. You may want to try pulling the diagnostic codes also.let me know if I can help.

When i push my clutch pedal down the starter engages, what is the cause of this?

Hi!!

The clutch switch is designed to prevent vehicle from accidentally engage the starter unless the clutch pedal is depressed. (It is the equivalent to the Neutral Safety Switch for automatic transmissions.)

Pressing the clutch pedal by itself will NOT activate the starter unless the key is in the RUN position.

Check your ignition switch. it may be stuck on RUN.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!

1998 ford f150 doesnt have signal for starter solenoid and ignition switch is new

Using a jumper wire, connect the S. terminal on the starter relay to the battery connection on the relay. the starter should engage. if it does not, your problem is between the starter relay and the starter itself. if it does engage, check your neutral safety switch if you have an automatic , or your clutch pedal switch if you have a standard shift.
