Check Engine Light P0740. Car stalls when starting (occasionally), and the transmission slips when stopped.

My check 2001 Qx4 check light engine come on, and the code returned is: P0740. The car seems to drive okay, with no real issues with shifting.. However, on occasion my car stalls whens starting it. And while at a stop light the RPM's random drop, and the transmission feels it momentarily slips.

This code is set when the transmission control module detects improper voltage at the torque converter clutch. This can be caused by low tranny fluid/dirty tranny fluid/defective torque converter clutch solenoid/electrical connections to from solenoid

Hello there my name is Clara I have a 2001 acura TL 3.2 liters thats reading the code P0740

P0740 is the torque converter malfunction code. The converter is in between the engine and transmission. The fluid that you are seeing is transmission fluid. It needs to go to a mechanic to narrow it down from there.

I have a 20001 Odyssey with 70,000. The check engine light and TCS light both came on. The TCS light has since gone out but the check engine remains. I went to an auto parts store and their computer came...

unfortunately it is. Contact your local dealership to see if it may still be covered under a warranty or not.

Customer Concern: The check engine light is on with the trouble code P0740 present. Tests/Procedures: 1. Test drive the vehicle and watch the tachometer. See if the automatic transmission locks up. If unable to see the RPM change, and the Engine Control Module (ECM) is turning on the lockup solenoids, then the problem has to be internal to the transmission. The transmission has an extended warranty from Honda for 7 years or 100,000 miles. Potential Causes: Automatic Transmission
Lock-Up Solenoid
Torque Converter

Car running rough and stalling

I had the same problem with my dodge neon. Its your transmission slipping. My car had to have all the transmission flushed and it helped alot, but the longer you let it go, the damage could be permanent.
