check for an air/vacuum leak in the manifold gasket area. Check that the accelerator cable/ linkage is connected properly and adjust the idle speed up to around a minimum of 750 rpm
You may have a faulty coil pack. If the coil pack is faulty it tends not to give current to the plugs. It is located at the side of the engine where the spark plug wires are connected. Once you removed the cap you will gain access to the coil pack. You will need to pull it out and replace it with the new one.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
The problem could be in the spark plugs. Usually if just one of the spark plugs is not producing the spark needed, the engine would still start. It may run rough, but will still start. If none of the spark plugs are producing a spark (or firing) then this could be the culprit. The spark plugs gets power to spark from coil packs. So check the coil pack first. If the coil pack checked ok then its faulty spark plugs causing this problem. Also remove the spark plug connection and clean it and reconnect it and recheck. In some cases this helps.---------------That's it.
The Spark Plugs are located under the Coil Pack in the Cylinder Head. You need to remove the silver cover on the front part of the engine which are held down by Allen Bolts to access the Coil Pack. You will need to remove the two bolts holding the Coil Pack to the Cylinder Head. Pull up on the Coil to remove the Coil and inside the hole will be the Spark Plug. The rear part of the engine next to the firewall has no cover so you will need to just remove the Coil Pack. The Nissan Maxima is very picky about the brand of Spark Plugs you replace them with, You should only use NGK Platinum Plugs or Better in your Maxima, Any other brand will make your car run rough.
