SOURCE: 1996 ford taurus odometer stopped working

the Speedo in your car is electronic, the problem is the tiny motor that moves the needle is most likely defective, there are no parts for the Speedo available to the consumer from Ford, you must remove the Speedo and have it repaired by a authorized Speedo repair shop. here is a link to a good one I know about.

Yes you do the fuel and ignition timing is controled by that sensor and if it set in there wrong the car will not run very well. They may give you a plastic tool to set the sensor in but every one that has been set in by that tool has been wrong. In order to get that sensor put in correct you need get the tool that you can rent from most of your good auto parts stores.

SOURCE: where is the oil sending unit on a 1996 ford

On 3.0L OHV engines, the oil pressure sensor is located on the left side of the engine block above the flywheel. On 3.0L DOHC engines the sensor is located on the left side of the engine block above the oil filter. On 3.4L DOHC engines the sensor is screwed into the oil filter adapter. The oil pressure sensor operates the oil pressure warning lamp.

SOURCE: where is speed sensor on 2005 ford taurus

the speed sensor is located on the case of the transmission, it is about the size of a jumbo magic marker with a 2 or 3 wire connector going to it, but based on the symptoms most likely the speedo is the problem, if the speed sensor was defective u would have a check engine light on and the transmission would be shifting erratically.

Where is theTransmission Speed Sensor location on 1995 escort lx wagon?

Some of the trannys do not have the fill plug feature. On these trannys, you have to fill through the Vehicle Speed Sensor location (VSS). This is not fun. The VSS is located on the firewall side of the tranny, about in the middle of the tranny, down low. You can barely see it and reach it from the top of the engine compartment on the driver\'s side. You have to disconnect the VSS wire connector. Then, remove the VSS retaining bolt - this is a 10mm hex-head bolt in the tranny near the base of the VSS. The VSS must finally be pried carefully out of the case. Tranny fluid is filled through the VSS hole until full. Re-install the VSS and hook up the connector when complete. Have a box of Band-Aids ready.

If you have to change the fluid because you pulled the tranny, do yourself the favor of removing the speed sensor when the tranny is OUT of the vehicle. Then you can change the O-ring as well. Much easier not to damage the VSS which is a $60+ part to replace.

Where is the Intermittent VSS Sensor Signal located on my 91 deville

You misunderstand code, there is a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) it's problem is that it is giving an intermittent signal. The VSS is what tells the speedometer how fast you are going (among other things) it is located in the transmission (transaxle). '91 is right around the time when they were going away from mechanical speedometer cables so it may or may not have one depending on the production date. If it has a cable the VSS is built into the speedo gear housing. If there is no cable, the VSS is in the same location on the tranny it just has no provision to drive the speedo cable If you have the new part it may help you to find it on the car but it should be in the left side of the transmission housing near where the left drive axle goes into the case. The VSS gear actually drives off of the very end of that axle inside the gear case. I think it is a 10mm head bolt that retains the VSS.

Hope this helps, best of luck.

Vss

VSS is the Vehicle Speed Sensor; newer vehicles no longer have a speedometer cable, the speedometer is electronic and receives a signal from the VSS located on the transmission. No signal from the VSS will set a code, cause the speedometer to malfunction and interfer with the ABS system.

1997 honda accord se need to change vss, where

For 1997 Honda Accord 2.2L MFI 4cyl the Vehicle Speed Sensor - Location is located mounted on transmission.

OPERATION
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a magnetic pick-up sensor that sends a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the speedometer. The sensor measures the rotation of the output shaft on the transaxle and sends an AC voltage signal to the PCM that determines the corresponding vehicle speed.

TESTING
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the VSS.
  3. Using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM), measure the resistance (ohmmeter function) between the sensor terminals. If the resistance is 190-250 ohms, the sensor is okay.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the three terminal connector from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
  3. Remove the fasteners that secure the VSS to the transaxle housing assembly.
  4. Remove the VSS.
To install:
  1. Install the VSS.
  2. Install the mounting bolts.
  3. Connect the three terminal connector to the sensor.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
Hope helps (remember rated this).

1999 Saturn sl speed sensor

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located in the differential area of the transaxle. Also, to replace it should be fairly simple. I wish I could give a better answer exactly where it is at, but I have you the answer straight out of the Haynes manual.

To replace the VSS, disconnect the electrical connector from the VSS. Then remove the retaining bolt and lift the VSS from the Transaxle or simply unscrew the VSS. Installation is the reverse of removal.
