1992 SL2 Saturn The gear shifter has disengaged from linkage. Previously had repaired with video help 2 years ago (pretty good for a girl)., anyway I'm trying to remove the console and stuck on how to remove the wiring for the electric windows. I had used a tie and duck tape or gorilla tape to keep the linkage together. The video showed a wired wrapped around but I couldn't manage the necessary "tightness" so I used what I had available and 2 years later I felt a pop yesterday and that familiar free flow feeling of broken shifter came rushing back. I coasted to the nearest safe place and waited for the tow truck. I watched you tube videos but there isn't anything I'm sure someone can direct me in the direction Thanks K

94 passport 5 speed manual...sifts and clutch actuates the the pressure plate...tranny gets full functionality in 4th gear only...i get nothing in all other gears...tranny was perfect when i pulled it

check the joint where the shift linkage attaches to the shift shaft at the transmission....you either have a pin missing in the joint or missed the splines when making the connection at the shaft...........Make sure it is in neutral at the shaft and inside the car at the shifter before making the connection at the shaft.............

I have a Tata Indica LE 2009 - I cannot get into 1st, 3rd and 5th gears but have no problem with 2nd, 4th and reverse? Please advise

This sounds like a gear linkage problem. Lift the cover around the gearstick. Check the ball joint on the gearstick. It should be a tight fit.
Is the gear stick loose in those problem gear positions or does it refuse to go into position for that gear?
Open the bonnet and check the connections at the engine end to make sure nothing is slack or loose. If you can Safely get under the car, check the connections at the gear stick end as well. If everything is tight the problem is probably inside the gearbox.

Center console gear shifter

Yes, most likely. The linkage needs inspection from the shift lever to the transmission. You may have to check under the vehicle for disconnected linkage AND under the cover of the shift lever inside the truck.

HOW DOES THE GEAR SHIFTER ON A 1980 LANCIA BETA 2DOOR COUPE ZAGATA CONNECT TO THE CLUTCH

The gear shifter doesn't connect to the clutch, the clutch pedal and clutch release fork connect to the clutch. The shift linkage connects to the transmission through a 3 part lever with 2 adjustment points.

Shifting lever moves inside truck but its not shifting trans. just happened, shut the truck off working fine, got out of work , not working ?

The lever is connected to linkage which inputs gear selection into the transmission via a shaft. Have a man sit in the vehicle and move the gear selector gently through its range while you observe from underneath. If the linkage has become disconnected from that shaft you may be able to fix this yourself. If however the linkage is good, then you should have a transmission shop look at it. If the linkage is not moving at all then I would pull the console out and take a look at the bottom of the gear selector. Do not have the engine running please, this is why you cannot let a woman sit in the car while you are underneath it.

Shift linkage, ? trans dosn't seen to go into gear

look on the top of your trans have a friend or gf shift the car from gear to gear when nor running look for moving cable if none then time to take the console apart
remember there are also shift linkages on some models so you might ha ve to jack the car up and go under it to find linkage
they are only bolted on under car and in a ball others

Stuck in reverse. gear shift disconnected.

That ball shaped piece is directly connected to the fork inside the transmission. If this is broken then the trans needs to come apart, at least on the top end and the old fork removed and any gear damamge repaired before the new one goes in. Best to take this type of repair to a local trans shop as it is not a project for a novice.

Manual transmission shifter will not engage

Sounds to me that the shifter broke, i believe the shifter has a ball end that slips into a pocket in trans. that moves for gear selection and that ball brook off end of shifter. if its got a linkage set up most likely samething either shifting arms came off or shifter broke where linkage rods connect.

The gear linkage will have popped off at the gearbox. Look down the back of the gearbox, have a fish around and you should find a connecting rod loose and flopping around. Look for the ball joint it connects to and replace. A tip is just before you reconnect the rod back onto the ball joint, wrap the ball joint with a small piece of plastic bag, this will take up the play, and allow you to get home. I would recommend buying a new rod.
