Mazda 2006 Tribute 6 cy - why is dashboard key light on when key not in but goes off when driver door is opened?

I went out to car this morning and noticed that dashboard key light was on. Went off when I opened door, back on when I closed door. The last time I drove car was 4 days ago. That night neighbor's dogs started barking. I looked out & parking lights were flashing. Went out to car & key light was flashing. Went off when I checked turn signal which seemed to not be in exact Off position. Went back in house & noticed interior light in back of car was on. Had to manually turn it off. No one had turned on that I know. This key light could have been on since then but I hadn't been out to car before this morning. Car starts. What is problem?

Thanks, Brandon. Light is staying on (blinking) when door is shut or open now. My Power Steering Pump is having problems. Could this have broken wires in the column?

Hazard light don't work

The hazard switch is located in the middle of the dashboard, above the radio. If has stopped working, you can order a replacement here:

Car ajar light and alarm goes off on 2005 tribute

Pits one of the five door ajar switches. They are located in the door latch mechanism that holds the door closed. The best way to figure out which one it is is to scan the body control module. With all the doors closed. It will tell you which door is giving the open signal. This will need to be done with a high end scan tool that any good shop or the dealer will have. The most common one to fail is the driver front door.

Mazda Tribute won't start and has no electricity

This is a common problem with Mazda tribute and Ford escape. Replace the ignition switch. Actually, if you close the doors and turn everything off. Insert key and turn to on position, do not start, verify all dashboard lights come on. If they are, just press key in and jiggle around a bit, then try starting, u may have to do it a couple of times to start it. But, change the switch and possibly the key tumbler..do switch first and test. .then key tumbler if not successful. Both parts should cost less than $80..good luck.

P.S. you can replace the switch yourself, remove steering column 4 screws, switch has a yellow or white markings and is on the left of the column opposite the key side.

Starting the 1st time the key is turned.

I had a similar problem with my 2001 Tribute. I changed the spark plugs and the problem went away. I had about 160K miles on the original spark plugs.

There was a opening for a key on the driver's door handle, so I got into the car that way. Ha, haven't tried to start it yet!
