Remove two bolts holding caliper on and pull up as hard as you can on the caliper. Wiggling back and forth at the same time helps.

SOURCE: installing brake pads on 2004 ram 1500

Also be sure to either have your rotors turned by a professional or buy new rotors. They wear grooves and warp over time and if not machined back into a smooth flat surface it will cause a shaking and uneaven braking problems and will greatly increase the wear on your new pads. New rotors are not that much but getting them turned at a parts store usually costs around $5-10 each. Also not turning the rotors may viod any warranty you have on the new pads.

How to change parking brakes on 2003 dodge ram

  • 1 Determine which type of emergency brakes your Dodge Ram will need. Emergency brakes typically function by activating the regular braking system on the driving wheels. The emergency brakes for the Dodge Ram have used rear disc brakes since 2001.
  • 2 Release the parking brake pedal completely and raise your vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel with a socket wrench and disconnect the brake caliper from the caliper adapter. Slide the rotor from the axle shaft.
  • 3 Install the new brake rotor onto the axle shaft and complete the installation by reversing the removal steps.
  • 4 Tighten the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence with a torque wrench until the nuts are torqued to 47.5 foot/pounds Repeat the tightening sequence to torque the nuts to 95 foot/pounds.
  • 5 Apply and release the park brake pedal to seat and adjust the parking brake cables. Road test the vehicle to ensure the vehicle's brake system is functioning.
  • 6 Place tool C-3919 or the equivalent over the park brake shoes and use the star wheel adjuster to lower the park brake shoes until the lining just touches the jaws on the tool.

its possible the switch on the e/brake unit broke, take a flashlight and locate a single/double wire that goes to the e/brake assembly (this is the piece you depress with your left foot) and look to see if the wire is broken or the switch the wire goes to is broken.

2004 emergency brake does the rotor need to be taken out

What is the problem so far? You will find a rubber plug on the inside of the backing plate, you must loosen the auto matic adjuster in side before you can remove the disc, you will need to try either direction with a screwdriver once you find the correct direction ( you will feel the disc turn easier) continue until you can remove the disc. The replacing of the brakes after that is straight forward.
